Tamiya F4F Wildcat

I’m interested in Tamiya’s 1:48 F4F Wildcat. Any comments?

I’ve got the kit in my stash but havn’t started building it yet. Looks to be another fine Tamiya Shake- and-backe kit from the looks of it.

I’ve had poor luck with Tamiya decals however, may want to consider aftermarket ones.

I also have it in my stash. Looks to be a fun build. I do have some AM PE parts for it. It is probably next on my list - after I finish my Do-335, Bf-110G4, B-1, and the “Fraternal Twins” builds that I have going.

I’ve built this Wildcat. It’s typical Tamiya, it just falls together with no problems. The recessed panel lines are really nice and looks very nice sitting next to my A6M2 Tamiya zero. Do not compare this to Monograms old wildcat kit, it ain’t even in the same league. I haven’t put the decals on yet so I can’t tell you what the quality of the decal material is. If they are anything like Tamiyas later offerings I would not worry about it. Try it you’ll like it!!

It’s an excellent kit, one of Tamiya’s best. It goes together with no problems. The floor of the cockpit is inaccurate as molded, but easily corrected if that matters to you. Like most kits, it can be enhanced with AM detail sets & decals, but it looks grear built OOTB.

I’m currently building the Tamiya 1/48 F4F-4 Wildcat for the Battle of Midway group build.
What can I say, it’s Tamiya and with that you get all the usuals great fit, nicely detailed (which you can add to as much, or as little as you want), two piece canopy and overly thick decals. I’ve picked up some Aeromaster decals and a resin seat with harness for mine, but apart from that it’s OOB.
About the only nit pick I could come up with is the fact that the rivet detail is a little oversized IMHO, but if it bothers you that much it’s easy enough to sand back.

Cheers

I have built this kit and it is definately a fall together kit. Id say it ranks very high as 1 of Tamiyas best.

I resound what the others have said…this is a simple (yet detailed), fun, very bice build. It looks awesome with the right paint job. In short, you almost can’t go wrong.
Oh, and another thing…please post pictures once you start.

Thanks for all your help. I bought the kit and I think I’ll like it. Once I finish my B-24 I’ll start on the Wildcat.
