Tamiya F-4U-1D

Hey guys, I’m back with more model! This time I’ve started the Corsair. This plane is one of my favorites. There’s just something cool about big fighters. I’ve got the cockpit done, and I think that this is my best one to date. Tell me what you think!

So far this kit is awesome. However, I’ve noticed some ejector pin marks in the gear bays. They are hard to get to. Nothing’s perfect, though, right? I’ve buttoned up the fuselage since i took these pictures, and I’m sure there will be some more updates! Enjoy!

I suspect there are contest-types plotting, even as we speak, to break your thumbs…

Very nice work. I think it might be improved by a wash. Right now it looks “reatoration fresh.” Unless, of course, you want it this way. Still, some fake shadowing might be nice.

HA! Thanks Triarius. It might be difficult to see in the photos but I have given it a decent wash. I didn’t want to go overboard, but I think I washed it ok. Maybe next time I’ll make it a little grimier. Thanks for the comments!

Looks real good maybe its just the lighting, the middle picture you can see the wash. What did you use on the panel, decal or is that painted?

I see the wash, very nice. Are the guages decals or painted?

The gauges are decals… yes i’m a weenie[:)] Thanks everyone

Looks great! Keep up the good work! I’m sure the rest of the kit will “fall” together. Good luck!

That is a great start on a great model. Keep us posted on your progress.

It looks great! The fact that people are asking about the instrument shows how convincing they are. Really nice! Much better than any ip decal I have ever done :-). I can’t wait to see more if this is any indicator of what is to come…

Nice job on the pit. The IP looks very good. Are you going to add seat belts or just let the poor pilot bounce around ?

Regards, Rick

Looking real good so far, max. Very nice work! [tup]

RadMax8,

You’ve done a great job so far, much better than what I did! I’ve had that bird sitting on my shelf for months. I was building it with the wings folded up and snapped the #$%$^& thin piece that holds the wing on. [banghead]

Hey, if you aren’t using those pieces… [:-^]

Looks like a fine start. Great job!

A definate first class job on the office. The instruments look great.

Hey Bgrigg, sorry I’m planning on wings up[sigh].
Rick, I’ll be adding a pilot siiting in the cockpit, so I guess he’ll be bouncing around[oops]
A lot of you guys have complimented me on the panel. I’ll give you the details of how i did it
Step 1- Paint the panel GLOSS BLACK (easier decal application)
Step 2- Cover the panel in Micro Sol
Step 3- Add decal(s)
Step 4- Cover the panel and decal in Micro Set
Step 5- Poke a hole on the gauges (so they will nestle down a little better)
Step 6- More Micro Sol
Step 7- Add your favorite flat coat (mine’s Future and Tamiya Flat base, which can be brushed on)
Step 8- Take a tiny paintbrush and add Future to the gauges. This is what sets it out.
Sorry for so many steps, but you can really get all this done in about 20 mins (not counting drying time, of course!)
Thanks for so many kind words.

Well, it was a long shot!

Watch those wings though, once in place there isn’t much holding them up.

Bgrigg:

E-mail sent. I’ll send you my spares…

Thanks Mucker! You are a hero!!

looks great. really like the ip. well done with the decal.

I’ve built the F4U-1D, and it’s one of the best kits I’ve ever seen. [:D] Ihave recently gone back and made a few modifications (added control surface actuators from guitar string, added some canopy frame details, etc) good luck with your build, and keep us posted with the pics!
