I decided I needed to build a kit that falls/puts itself together. So I pulled out this kit from my stash and began construction. So far that is precisely the case! The hull and suspension are done with roughly only about 2-3 hours of work! The turret will probably take about the same amount of time. I will post some pics of what has been completed so far later on.
Nice little kit isn’t it? Yeah, I got frustrated and slapped it together pretty quickly. Finally got around to painting it. It will be an interm build, with my Tamiya Pz IV, which takes presedence. I’m mad, because I lost one of the hook thingies on the turret. I said "oh well"and painted it anyways. I needed a break from some of my other builds. I do love Tamiya and along with the Panzer IV J, find it to be a nice amount pieces. Sometimes I think Dragon goes overboard with the amount of pieces without thinking about the needless extra building that is needed, just to get the parts number count up to impress builders. More is not always better IMO.
3000 eh? Hah, I got that in my first month. LOL Just kidding, I didn’t. My posts have dropped dramatically over the years. Congrats nonetheless.
Sweet, I have that one in my stash and every build-up or review I have read about it lauds its “shake n bake” qualities, not to mention it is a very nice looking AFV…I have always wondered why that kit hasn’t been built more…congrats on 3,000…
When it came out, early reviews lauded the kit’s detail, simple construction, etc. Its an attractive, historically important subject… One wonders, like you said, why its not built up more (maybe one of those kits that everyone wants, buys, and then sits on the shelf a’la the Trumpeter A-5 Vigilante)?
The Cromwell is a nice kit to build. I did mine with tracks from Hobby Boss and a commander figure from Alpine Miniatures. It is the first kit I’ve weathered and I will admit to being very pleased with it.
I agree great kit, I also used the HobbyBoss links to get the track sag, not the best indy link track set but better than rubber band kit tracks for exposed sagging tracks
I built the Centaur a couple years ago, and aside from the tracks breaking after completion, I was extremely pleased with the kit. A true pleasure. So far this one is shaping in to more of the same. I only got in about 30 minutes of work this mrning, but main construction completion will be by the end of this week if no major crisis occur in my life…[:-,]
Does anyone know if the interior on these was aluminum paint or white?
The Cromwell was the first 1/35 AFV I did when I got back into the hobby. Being a Brit myself I have a soft spot for British armour, just a shame there isn’t more from the big boys, would be nice to see a 17 pounder or an Archer in a Tamiya box.
You aren’t kidding! I’m hoping that Tamiya follows it’s pattern of upsizing new 1/48 molds into 1/35 like they did with the Hetzer and StuG III B and do the same with that Crusader II. Also a Valentine would be greatly appreciated.
I am not sure about off white for Brit tanks. I know for certain they used silver/aluminum paint on early war tanks. They later switched to white. I am just trying to confrim at what point the change over happened. But if you have any good place you can point me on this subject I would be much obliged Manny.
