Tamiya Bulldog (dirty pics)

Here are some pics of my just completed tamiya M41 Walker Bulldog. Build was mostly straight OOB, I added antennas and replaced a grab handle that tweezerpulted with coppeer wire.
The wood base came from Hobby Lobby and was stained with the Old English brand scratch cover (dark). The ground is plaster of paris Painted with artist acrylics (mostly Delta Ceramcoat brand) with Woodland Scenics grass, shrubs, weeds.
The vehicle was completed in the markings of the JGSDF and is depicted on manuvers. I may have made a boo-boo though, I used burnt Umber for the wash instead of Burnt Sienna which gives it a reddish cast is there reddish soil in Japan?) which I tried to blend by altering the shade as I added mud and dirt to the vehicle.
This is my first base and comments/suggestions are welcome.

nice. like the dirt on back and treads, very good attention to detail! dunno about the whole reddish thing…

Nice OOTB job on that Tamiya kit, Derek. The weathering is great especially the mud. The base came in good combination with the tank. Great work all in all.

And just to think I heard lots of negatives about that very old kit.

Very nice Derek. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Tanks for the kudos guys. This started as a quick OOB build while Panther parts dried - the Panther isn’t done yet. [:(]

very nice, I like the base, of course I think ALL should have some type of base[;)]

what type of plaster did you use? I have 20 minute casting plaster at work in 80 pound bags, maybe a coffee can or two will find it’s way home…[:D]

Nicely done Derek … have to love a quick build that turns out so nicely.

dostacos: It’s hardware store Plaster of Paris, mix ratio is 2 parts plaster to 1 part water. Similar to spackling compound for drywall (gypsum board). What you have should work.

Sherm This “quick build” took 2 weeks [:0] and pushed the Panther aside, now I gotta pounce on the Panther. [:p]

Awesome!!!

maybe someone can teach me how to do that for my Bulldog???

Good job, Derek. [:D] Nice looking Bulldog. - Ed

very good work. especially burnt sienna part. thanks for sharing with us.

Cool looking bulldog, Derek. Nice build and display. Don’t know about Japan, but there are tons of red dirt in Vietnam!

Hmmm…I’m kinda colorblind, so I can’t really tell ya about Japanese dirt!

Well, Vietnam does have red clay soil and China has yellowish clay soil (in parts) don’t know about Japan but hey! It’s your model-you want red clay-you got red clay. Besides-it contrasts nicely with the OD.

Colorblind, Jhulk? Maybe that explains that pink E-100 in your signature.

Looks great Derek. Nothing like a nice quick build that just comes together everynow and then. So are you gonna do a base for the Panther now?

Derek,

Excellent job! You put together a well proportioned and good looking layout on your base. So many people want to squat their armor right square in the middle of the base. Yours works well because you turned and off-centering it, and then provided convincing ground detail.

I especially liked how you stuck some of the grass onto the tracks like it was being ripped up from the field. It’s details like these that help create realism.

Great work!

love that dirt and grass on the tracks! Keep up that good work![tup][swg]

Nicely done and very realistic.

Nice job claymore!!! [swg][swg][swg]

Good looking tank dio, Derek.
No problems with the weathering…Looks great.
The plaster of paris works well as a base for the grass and dirt…very realistic!
