I decanted a Tamiya AS-series spray can for the first time. It airbrushed great, but then I had a surprise that my Iwata airbrush cleaner fluid did not thin the paint during cleanup. Also, my usual Tamiya X-20A thinner did not work and every other thinner I had from other manufacturers did not work. I with a ton of effort I was able to get the airbrush cleaned up using Windex, but that was not working terribly well either. Does anyone know what thinner I should use for Tamiya AS-series spray can paints? Thank you in advance for any help on this.
Tamiya AS and TS spray paints are lacquers. You need lacquer thinner to clean it up. Paint thinner intended for acrylics will not clean this up, as you have discovered.
