Tamiya are currently conducting a poll on what modeller’s would like to see in 1/48th.

sounds like a good thing and maybe there make some of the ideas in 1/35th also
i have also posted this on the Armour forum[:D]
to be the next Vehicle after there Kubelwagon

its asking for military vehicles, so Id love to see a willys jeep in that scale. It would go great next to the B-17 or B-24, or B-29 , or P-51 , or, well, you get it.

Yeah,
A WWll Willys Jeep!! I’d but 5 or 10 of them if Tamiya made them.
At least you’d know that the bits would fit like a glove…
Cheers

Why are they doing a 1/48 armor?

1/35 is the PERFECT scale! They should concentrate on getting more interesting vehicles for 1/35, rather than starting a 1/48. It would be too small!

But I guess you could put it with airplanes in a diorama.

I think 1/48 scale Armour would be fantastic you could make a size compairsion between the two and some of the vehicles would be great for Dio’s, and then I’d most definitally would be doing both Armour & A/C kits, but if Tamiya is just doing A/C in 1/48 I’d like to see all of the Navy’s A/C of the late 40’s through the mid 60’s because most other modelling companies have done all of the USAF’s A/C and not much of the Navy’s

Aircraft sevicing equipment ie: 2 1/2 ton trucks for crew delivery, bomb loaders,
engine starters (besides hasegawa), plane mules, blah…blah…blah. The field is wide open and I’d buy them all BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA

id like a Ford mutt and M113 ACAV to go next to my AH 1 skyraider
or a sherman tank next to a Dornier nightfighter as seen in some photos
theres a email link to mail them your suggestions on the site

I heard rumors that Tamiya was getting out of the 1/72nd scale aircraft market. Looks like maybe they are going to place their bets on the 1/48th scale armor (to match up with their 1/48th scale aircraft) market.

Like everyone else, field/airbase equipment, carrier deck equipment, etc… would be a good start.

Please…please say it isnt so![:(][:(][:(] I hope this is just that…a rumor!
Chris

thats a brilliant idea…no matter what they do…

It’s about time kit manufacturers realize that 1/72 scale is simply a waste of plastic. Yeah!

Well, I don’t think it’s a waste of plastic. Different scales for different folks. Anyway, word was, from a Tamiya representative at Tamiyacom that the cost of a 1/72nd mould is the same as a 1/48th mould and they make a lot more profit on 1/48th scale kits so… Not difficult to figure out the writing on the wall.

I know it’s not armor but how about some 40’s vintage sedans? I think they would look great in airfield dioramas.

I would also buy the Willy’s, 2 ½’s, M16 Multi Gun Motor Carriage, etc.

I for one would appreciate some period appropriate 1/48 autos, trucks and such. Late 30’s and early 40’s vehicles would add tremendous range and dimension to aircraft dioramas. Even moden vehicles would fill a void. Civilian or military - either way it would make things more interesting. I would love to build a scene of a bunch of pilots piled into a Jeep or a convertable scrambling to their awaiting aircraft. Not that it was all that good of a movie, but the visual image of that scene in ‘Pearl Harbor’ has stuck with me.

I am currently working on a scene involving an airshow pilot parking near his restored P-51D. I had to do it all in 1/24th scale because the choice of vehicles is wide open, but the choice of aircraft and figures is somewhat limited. The drawback is that working in such a large scale demands a level of detailing and scratchbuilding that is a stretch for me time wise and talent wise. If it were done in 1/48 scale, I think the project would be quite a bit easier to complete and display.

i dont think it would harm if you asked them for civvie cars or trucks, thats what there after
i do think a nice BMW parked next to a FW 190 would look good, would also like one in 1/35th

I want 1/48 scale US Army WW2 stuff- start with a Sherman.
I think it makes sense that Tamiya is looking at 1/48 scale-- it is the only scale not well served for tanks and other vehicles. All the mainstream subjects exist in 1/35 scale. I think there is a real market opportunity there, especially given the popularity of 1/48 aircraft.

Bandi had 1/48 scale armor in the '70s, they had nice interior detail, I had several. It’d be great to have some vehicles to put with my 1/48 aircraft. Bob

Yep I go along with the calls for a Jeep. A fuel truck would be nice as well.

Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber crews make history.
