Tamiya Acrylic Retarder

Hi all,

I’m right in the middle of summer here and it is a hot one, anywhere between 105-114F. I’m spaying either first thing in the morning or at night but am finding the paint is still drying before it hits the plastic. I went out and bought the retarder but there are no ratio/instruction guides. can anyone help with how many drops i should add to my spray cup. Also can it be used with other paint brands?

I’ve got some and use it often - it’s a great product. When I mix it, it’s usually no more than a drop or 2, and never exceeding a ratio of 10 parts paint to 1 part extender. Never tried it with anything but Tamiya acrylics however.

I live in Arizona and we have a pretty dry climate all the time. I have tried many things and my current “formula” of choice is 1 drop of retarder (I use Golden’s), 2 drops of Flo-Aid by Liquitex, and then bring in the paint. I then thin as I think I need to based on the pressure and the color. I still keep a swab nearby and clean the tip often.

I spray Tamiya, Vallejo, and Model Master and it works on all three brands. I would assume the Tamiya would as well.

I have two bottles but I haven’t used them. I mix Tamiya acrylics with Tamiya thinner 1:1 and have never experienced a dry tip or clogging.
