Does anybody here own a Tamiya AB or ever used one? Preferably this type, but it doesn’t really matter. I’m thinking of purchasing this kind in the future, so I better ask now, before I get the money in my pocket. (I tend to be an impulse shopper sometimes) thanks, -Spencer [tup] or [tdn][%-)]
I haven’t tried that one yet, however, I have a Tamiya Spraywork kit. Being a japanese made airbrush, i think it has the best materials and craftmanship put into it. I would also like to try their trigger type airbrush since it seems that it is very ergonomically design. Any comments for this type of airbush users.
The Tamiya’s are made in the same factory in Japan where Iwata, Olympos, Richpen, Peak, and many others are made. I hear they are very good and are very much like Iwata.
If you want to know more about them I would suggest you email or call Coast Airbrush and inquire about them with Dave Monnig as I believe he sells them and he knows airbrushes very well.

I use the Tamiya HG Trigger, and I love it. It’s an easy-to-use, versatile, reliable airbrush. Has never given me a lick of trouble in the five years I’ve had it, and has performed every painting task flawlessly.
Thanks for the info guys. The owner of the best shop, (in my opinion) King’s Hobby here in Austin, claims they’re the best and said he personally uses this type. He showed and explained it to me in close detail. It sounds like a winner to me. The price on it is $189.00, what do you guys think about that? -Spencer
J-Hulk,
Do you use the HG Trigger for general airbrushing or for detailing? Is it ergonomically comfortable for the wrist since my wrist ache a little bit for prolonged airbrushing.
That is up to you but I wouldn’t pay that much for an airbrush.
I can get the same results with a Omni 4000 for $119.00 less. [:D] [;)]

That air brush is $159 at coast airbrush, even with shipping it should be cheaper but then again, it is good to support the local hobby shop.

unless it is full of jackasses who are liie “buy aztek, they rule” and “don’t buy iwata, or badger, they break really soon. buy aztek instead” <----- true story
1337, by the way you hobby shop told you to buy aztec, I think they are trying to get rid of it!! [:D]
I use it for everything. It’s the only AB I have, and I haven’t felt the need to get another one at all. It’s touted primarily as a “general” AB, but I’ve found it can do just about everything. I went to a Tamiya seminar a while back, and was amazed at the tight tiny patterns that are possible with the HG Trigger.
I actually decided on the HG Trigger after seeing a buddy do a very tight squiggle camo with it on a FAMO halftrack.
Ergonomically, it’s very comfortable. I have huge hands (J-Hulk, after all), and normal ABs feel quite awkard to me. The trigger arrangement makes using the Tamiya AB very comfortable and very easy to control.
Have I mentioned that I love this AB?
I believe the Tamiya products are made by Iwata.
Yeah, i need one. and yeah, they are made in the same factory. joys of tamiya. i have an oldschool tamiya hat, i just gotta take a pic of me in it sometime…
Lots of info, thanks guys. Thanks for that link Mike! (I’m torn between LHS and saving money. I think saving will win in the end, but I can go and buy a kit from him with the extra dough)
1337- My LHS is staffed with expert modelers-luckily. I use a $20.00 Testor’s AB at the moment(gravity feed;internal mix) All I have to do is clean the nozzles very thoroughly after every use.
I think I’ll end up with one of the Tam’s. I kinda like that ergo now J-Hulk. We’ll see. It’s still gonna be a short while before I purchase, so I’m sure I’ll be posting more threads on the subject. Thanks again everybody. -Spencer
Just got my new Tamiya HG Trigger type and man, you can’t believe its quality and craftmanship.[tup] Can’t wait to try it.[:)]
Thanks Sigman. That’s great. Please keep me informed. I’m curious as to how much you payed for it? (If you don’t mind of course) -Cheers, Spencer
Riffraff247, well, my LHS has an old inventory and sold it to me at US$105.00 at thats why i just decided to buy it at once.
You Lucky [censored]! That’s a steal.[oX)] Congrats! By the time I have enough saved, maybe I’ll find a deal like that somewhere. If not, Coast Airbrush is fine by me.[:)]
-Cheers
