Tamiya 251 series tracks

Are the vinyl tracks long enough to glue down or are they too short. I know most would prefer indies, but was wondering if I can get away wthout them this once. I have the Kanonwagen. Thanks.

Eric, which Kannonwagon Tamiya or DML?

I presume you have the Tamiya one and want to use their tracks. Firstly, no they are not glueable with liquid poly, but you could use cyano with care. Secondly, the Tamiya tracks are terrible, no inside detail and very noticibly chunky. You really need to consider replacing them. The AFV club Wheels and Tracks set comes with vinyl tracks and was made to fix the tamiya ones. It also comes with the parts required to correct Tamiya’s incorrect Ausf D suspension arrangement. The tracks are different lengths to account for this change (The Tamiya basic suspension is wrong and both sides have the same length). The AFV tracks are glueable, but you may need to shorten them, as my friend did a set for his Tamiya Ausf D as they were a link or two too long. I am doing the same set on a Tamiya Ausf D 251/1 that I am converting to a 251/8 ambulance, but have not fitted the tracks as yet.

Comparing the AFV club suspension set to the Dragon Ausf C suspension set I am also building, the suspension seems to be comparable, so the tracks should fit to the DML kit as well. Mind you, the indies I have done for the Ausf C were not as onerous as I first thought, so if you have those give them a go first if that is the kit you have.

yes they were long enough to glue down, at least on mine.

they were very short for mine. when i glued them on they fit very tightly and didnt look right. also, they pulled the front and rear wheels in almost to the point where they broke off.

Tigerman,I have 3 sets of afv tracks,still in factory poly bags.One early model,plastic, $ 2 late model ,1 plastic,1 rubber.I no longer need them & i paid 17$ for each.If your interested,I’d sell them for 9$ each,plus shipping.My e-mail is > sgtrudz@charter.net.

Thanks for the replies. Murderdogg, which kit did you have the C or D? I need to think about this one. Worked for one, but not another. Hmmmm.

tigerman. on my 251/1 D the tracks were a little short but i got them on there. Didn’t have to glue those ones on. the downside to them is that it doesn’t sag.

Thanks ygmodeler. Yeah, my is a D chasis too. If yours were tight, odds are mine will be too and I want the sag look.

mine were ok to glue down
if you have a Dragon 251 aswell you could use the spare set of tracks you get (theres a spare set in the 251/22)

Good to know. I was planning on getting a Dragon C. Thanks.
