Hi folks,
I am working on the Tamiya Spit Mk1. I don’t know if my research materials are wrong or Tamiya is wrong. I find out that the 7.7mm MG barrels bulge out from the wing tip, but may pictures I found the Spits had all their guns barrel hidden in the wing. Can anyone confirm which is right? Thanks you so much.
Anthony: from my limited research on the matter, your trail has indeed dug up pics of the Ia. Can’t remember if they got far enough down the line to produce a ‘b’ or ‘c’ wing of the Mk I, before moving on to the Mk II & then obviously the Mk V. HTH EDIT: I just found my copy of Spitfire70 (a special release by the publishers of FlyPast to commemorate the 70th ann of the plane), & they did modify the Ia to include 2x20mm Hispano cannons + 4x0.303 Brownings - known as the Ib, it entered service towards the end of BoB, though none were actually ever built as such.
The bulges are flash eliminators which were only found on very early Mk Is.
