Tamiya 1/48th P-51

Gentlemen- propeller blades on my Tamiya 1/48th P-51 look like cartoon matchsticks…totally want to replace them, but with another manufacturer’s ( Hasegawa ? ) or aftermarket, and has anyone heard of prop replacements besides Eagle Parts’ Fw-190 stuff ?

Ultracast…48081, 48136, 48137, 48138. Ultracast also makes seats, wheels, exhausts, and other resin goodies for the P-51. Ultracast has a lot of resin goodies for different planes and is really good stuff . www.justplanehobbies.com carries a full line of UC stuff.

I was gonna say the same thing.

Mcgunsmith,

I actually just received the Ultracast #48137 props from Sprue Brothers today for my P-51B. They look really nice except I had to sand the ends a little to make them more rounded. They kind of had the shape of boat paddles. No biggie though, it was like a 5 minute fix. Hope this helps and good luck with your build.

Jeff

What is the purpose of the “Cuffed” prop? Seen the term used but don’t understand the engineering idea.

Not sure exactley what the term means but on the one I received, the hub is cast as one piece. It’s solid except for the holes to mount the blades. You would have to cut off the aft section and do some drilling if you want a spinning prop. I’m just going to cut the mounting stem off the nose and glue mine on directly.

Jeff

The cuff eliminated an area of ice buildup as well as accomodated heating elements that could run some of the length of the propeller.
