As i haven’t posted any photos of any of my builds for some time, i thought i’d share a few today.
Here is Tamiya’s beautiful Tamiya Spitfire Mk I. I had a lot of fun building this kit - it really is shake and bake. I did have a few issues of silvering though, noticeable on the wing bulges.
I also couldn’t quite get rid of the seam along the cowl am not happy with the matte finish. The pictures make it look a little shiny and even to the eye, i’d prefer if it was more matter. I may have to go over it again with Dullcote or something similar.
I agree with TempestJohnny and Bish - i also really like those large roundels. They look a little too big almost. It was OOB though, so i was happy to use what Tamiya supplied.
You did a fantastic job on your masterpiece, if you like the high gloss leave it. If you don’t like it fix it. It’s your plane you do what makes you feel the most happy. And that’s what modeling is about! Are you happy with what you build?
Super job. I’ve had really good luck with the Alcad II clears, they make matt, semi-gloss, and gloss formulas you can spray straight out of the bottle. I think I am done with Future and Tamiya Flat Base, which used to be my favorite,
I mainly use Tamiya Clear and Tamiya Matte - but am also about to give up on Tamiya Matte.
This build has about 2-3 layers of Tamiya Matte on it, and still i think it’s too glossy.
I’m currently testing Testor’s Dullcote. If that works for me, then i may stick with that.
Thanks Toshi for the comments. I agree - build how you like it and so long as you enjoy it. Overall, i was very happy with this build, but just some small things i wish i’d done better.
Lucky i have plenty more kits in the stash to keep practising. [:D]
The fuselage roundels look larger than normal for a reason. Firstly, the ones on the wing top surface are smaller than what we are use to. On May 1st 1940, those on the sides were enlarged from what was official back then, with the addition of the yellow outer ring for better visibility, thus the oversize appearance.
I’ve been using this for years. I cut it with lacquer thinner. It dries almost instantly and you can vary the dullness by the amount you add to the thinner. I’ve never felt the need to try anthing else.
