What a beauty, Frank. Just like the Robert Taylor piece, your model is a true work of art. Taylor is my favorite of the WWII artists…great idea for a build.
Mike- For the decals, most of them are the kit decals. I received a lot of help making the serial numbers (Thanks Darren, Aaron and Mark!) and the squadron codes were cut out, masked and painted on.
Tom- Yep, some of them took anywhere from 6-8 applications to really get them down into the lines. HTH!
Charles- Thank you, and I agree-Robert Taylor’s work is absolutely stunning in my eyes. The one I have never ceases to amaze me when I look at it. I have also gotten the serial numbers and codes for the other three aircraft in the print, so it looks like I have more work to do yet. [swg]
That’s a neat project…I’m slowly doing something similar with Sabre’s for a Mark Waki print signed by 5 Korean War aces. The hard part is finding the decals for all of them!!!
Charles- Sounds like a great idea! Is it possible to mask and paint the markings, or are they very tiny details and script? I would love to see the print you speak of. [tup]
That’s a really nice rendition of the early spitfire. Nice clean build, looks great!
I always try to imagine what the first German fighter pilots thought of the Spitfire when they first encountered it. I always imagine that they would initally balk at its elegant lines, suspecting that any airplane looking so gorgeous would have to be a terrible fighter. But I’m sure that impression didn’t last 60 seconds.
