Tamiya 1/48 Spitfire Mk.I finished

Hey Frank,

All I can say is that your Spit is excellent my friend… Over all build is right on and the weathering is just right…

What decal co did you choose to go with?? After seeing yours, I may have to do another BoB Spit…But first I have to finish remodelling my Dungeon…[:P]

Anywho it is truly nice to see a build done just right and not overly weathered!! Thank you for sharing Frank…!!

Flaps up,

Mike

Nicely done…

Fade to Black…

Frank, thanks for the tips. I’ve used many of these. Seems like the key is to repeat the steps as many times as it takes to get the look you want.

Tom

What a beauty, Frank. Just like the Robert Taylor piece, your model is a true work of art. Taylor is my favorite of the WWII artists…great idea for a build.

Thank you fellas!

Mike- For the decals, most of them are the kit decals. I received a lot of help making the serial numbers (Thanks Darren, Aaron and Mark!) and the squadron codes were cut out, masked and painted on.

Tom- Yep, some of them took anywhere from 6-8 applications to really get them down into the lines. HTH!

Charles- Thank you, and I agree-Robert Taylor’s work is absolutely stunning in my eyes. The one I have never ceases to amaze me when I look at it. I have also gotten the serial numbers and codes for the other three aircraft in the print, so it looks like I have more work to do yet. [swg]

That’s a neat project…I’m slowly doing something similar with Sabre’s for a Mark Waki print signed by 5 Korean War aces. The hard part is finding the decals for all of them!!!

Once again, beautiful work, Frank.

Awesome build, very clean, especially the camo and the weathering on the underside.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks again Charles and kielers!

Charles- Sounds like a great idea! Is it possible to mask and paint the markings, or are they very tiny details and script? I would love to see the print you speak of. [tup]

Beautiful result, Frank! Flawlessly constructed and a nice finish. You should be proud of this one.

Kevin

Very well done frank, I like the antenna’s and the look of the gun stains.

Kevin and Stan- Thank you very much fellas, I’m glad you like! [^]

That’s a really nice rendition of the early spitfire. Nice clean build, looks great!

I always try to imagine what the first German fighter pilots thought of the Spitfire when they first encountered it. I always imagine that they would initally balk at its elegant lines, suspecting that any airplane looking so gorgeous would have to be a terrible fighter. But I’m sure that impression didn’t last 60 seconds.

I just sit and stare at it! [tup] Reminds me of a perfectly aged single malt scotch served by a fair maiden… It’s just that good!

Great Spit, Frank! Quite a collection you’ve got going there. [;)][tup]

Thanks much guys! You are too kind. Aaron- LOL, I’m glad you like!

Frank ,

Great job on the Spitfire ,nicely weathered , just superb .
