Tamiya 1/48 Sherman M4 Early... On the Bench.

I’m an avid AC modeler, but I find the new Tamiya 1/48 Armor kits kinda interesting. I started this one several weeks ago & only work on it now & then, but I now have the upper hull & turret assembled & base painted. Decals & weathering to follow. It’s strictly an OOTB build & my only painting reference was the kit instructions, so accuracy may be questionable. Anyhoo, thought I’d post it here & give you dark siders a chuckle [:)].

Hey that looks pretty good Rick.

I too just got into armor modeling. I too have been modeling aircraft for many many years. I must say you are doing a fine job. Keep up the good work. I find it refreshing to switch from aircraft to armor. Most of the time I have at least one tank in progress all the time…

Thanks

Good to see you in the darker side of things, Rick. Looking good so far.[:)]

Cool Rick, those 1/48 Tamiya got me doing armor too!

I see your A/C experience carried over on your camo job Rick. [;)] Looking sharp so far. But you’re going to have to “dirty it up” unlike a NMF. LOL Have you ventured into 1/48 armor before?

Looking good Rick, those Tamiya kits really are a lot of fun aren’t they?

The most time consuming thing I found with the Tamiya Sherman was the road wheels. As the part where the wheel makes contact with the ground is slightly concave, eliminating the seam was a bit of a pain.

Cheers

Thanks guys, appreciate your comments.

Eric, I’v bought a few & have 3 sorta started, but this will be the first one actually completed.

Darren, yeah, the road wheels took some time. My least favorite part of Armor modeling are the road wheels. I just don’t like repetitive tasks.

Especially those with tires. Like a Panzer IV. [:(!]

Looking good Rick, what color of red is that on your shermen?

The darkside! muuahahahahahaha Yes My pressciousss he will love loves it toooo yesssss,Yeessss!

Umm uh don’t know where that came from but that sure is a nice paint scheme on the Sherman.

We likes it my pressciousss yes we doooooo

Nice work, Rick! That’s a sharp camo job!

Thanks guys. The Red Brown is ModelMaster Burnt Sienna.

I painted this per the Tamiya kit instructions, but was told on another Forum that the Red Brown camo should actually be black. My knowledge of Armor is limited so I guess I made a newbie mistake. I had looked at some profiles in an Osprey book on the Sherman (Snuck a peek at the LHS) which showed the red brown camo & is what I used as a match with the MM Burnt Sienna. But I’ve also been told that the Osprey book is a 1980’s edition & later research showed the camo as black. And here I thought Armor would be simple [:D].
