Tamiya 1/48 P-47D Razorback done (pics)

Tamiya 1/48 P-47D Razorback with Eagle Strike Decals to make Raid Hot Mama. I saw this decal set and immediately knew I had to build a Razorback [:D]

After getting everything together and doing a small amount of weathering and panel washing, I don’t think I want to add any more to it. I am liking how it looks mostly clean. I really enjoyed weathering my previous models so it’s odd I feel like I’ve done enough. I need to add the antenna wire and do some touch up here and there, so I may add more weathering when I do that…not sure yet.

Everything went well except for a few minor problems of my own making. I used a piece of tape for a mask on the cockpit seat, unfortunately it pulled off some of the seatbelt decal when I removed it. It’s not terrible but is disappointing. It’s one of those things that you don’t see unless you give it a 2nd look. I’d imagine most people won’t be looking in the cockpit for long anyways [:D]

The other problem was the flat coat I used left behind some cloudy white discoloration on the wings. I used a sanding stick and re-airbrushed it in some spots and I don’t notice it anymore. It gave me one heck of a fright when I saw it though.

Thanks for looking.

Nice… Very nice. Good job.

sweet lookin jug! i like how the canopys frame is blue!

Yeah, baby! That’s one heckuva decal!! Oh, um, and the plane is excellent, too!

That really has come out well!.. Are you going to dirty her up a little, or is she as the day she rolled off the line?

Cheers

Wowza-- very nice Jug!! Ed’s going to like this one when he sees it!

Looks excellent! I hope my next jug(s) come out that nice.

Joshua

Looks great! Makes me want to start mine.

Very nice Jug Ted. Clen & crisp build.

Regards, Rick

Sweet build, and I’m not just talking about the nose art! I’ve been bogged down doing home reno work, but you have me getting back to my Jug!

Very nice build, Ted. Nice decal choice too.

Mark

Good work, Ted. That’s a sweet job on a very nice kit.
What are you planning on using for the antenna? I’ve found that a strand of my daughter’s hair works very well.

The t-bolt looks great Ted. Thanks for sharing the progress and finished pics. I enjoyed watching it. Nice work.

Ted, don’t remember seeing what you used for the o.d. Very nice job all around.

Olive drab used was tamiya XF-62.

I’m not sure what I want to use for the wire. I’m still searching for things around the house to use.

As for weathering it, I’m still not sure what I want to do. I did very little to it, took a step back and really liked the way it looked pretty much clean. I want to give it a day or two before I decide whether or not to attack the paint job. I’m thinking not weathering a ground attack jug would be some sort of a crime though.

Thanks all, I appreciate the compliments.

Very, very nice build !!!
And… a sexy nose-art !

Cheers,

Jürgen

Nice Jug Ted, love the nose art. Is it the photo or does the drop tank seem a little low?
Again, great job.

Jerry

The drop tank is low. It is not quite up against the small pieces protruding from the belly - maybe a millimeter or two of space.

That is one of the things I need to touch up. The tank isn’t glued to the fuselage, it’s just dry fit and hanging there. I pushed the piece in to test the fit and it didn’t want to come out easily so I left it for the pictures. I wanted to save chancing breaking things until after I took some pictures[:D]

great looking Jug!! Love the blue canopy frame and of course the nose art! The overall aircraft looks really great.

Thanks for sharing!!

very nice build, I do love the jug! BTW with the 2005 BRAC the Razorbacks will again fly the Republic and thunderbolt line when the get the A-10 Thunderbolt II in the next couple of years. Also an A-10 carries this “nose art” on it’s ladder door in hornor of the aircraft (they did have to put an outfit on her).
