Tamiya 1/48 ME-109E finished!!!

Hi, all! Just thought I’d post some pics of my latest project. It’s the ME-109E Trop from Tamiya in 1/48 scale. Built almost straight from the box. The only addition I added was a resin seat from True Details. Finished in Gunze acrylics with box stock decals. I forgot to add the little antenna from the main wire down to the spine, but decided that I would probably break the plane trying to drill a hole for it now. So, I decided to ignore it. As always, comments and constructive criticism welcome. Thanks for checking it out!

Nice one Frank. The desert mottle scheme looks very well done.

Regards, Rick

Frank,

that is outstanding! I love the paintwork on this one, you did an excellent job on the mottle scheme. You’ll have to teach me how to do that sometime. [;)]

Very nice indeed mate.[tup]

Frank, you did a fantastic job on my favorite 109 variant. In fact, I built my first Emil in the same markings. Your paintwork is excellent and the weathering is very subtle, but it works!

…and I LOVE the whitewalls! Was the green mottle done freehand?

Nicely done! [tup]

Can only echo the others… great job and great job on the camo.

looks mighty nice out of box. I like the white walls and the paint work on the spinner. I have yet to build a desert camo 109. clean build daywalker.

Excellent job. Camo is well executed.

Nice building!!! I love the camo job!!

regards

Jeremias

Beautiful, Daywalker. I plan to build a desert scheme 109 near the end of the year… and can only hope it turns outr nearly as nice as yours. Is the mottle freehand? Which paints did you use?

Sweet looking 109.

Looks real good Frank. I admire the subtle weathering you did, excellent. I like N Africa schemes and you did an awsome job of this one. Congrats!

Thanks everyone for the generous praise! Coming from guys like you who do such excelent work, it means a lot to me.

As for the painting, I painted the whole thing light blue, then used home made paper masks to paint the tan. Then, I painted the green mottle freehand. I’m very happy with the way it turned out.

Crisp and clean paintjob! Love it! Its like a Leopard of the skies…lol

Whitewalls look really good on it.

Criticism…hhmmmmmmmm…yeah right…lemme see…criticism…
Nope…can’t think of anything to say.
Your Emil is beautiful. There’s no reason or need to criticise - you’ve done a fantastic job, mate.
Thanks for sharing the pics!

Daywalker, I’ve got the same kit on the bench, but I’m building it as the “A” option, yellow nose with the twelve. How did you mask the spinner? I’m looking at in and I’m very curious. Great job on your 109, very professional looking!

Very nice Frank, great job on the camo.

RadMax8-

Thanks for the compliment! To mask off my spinner, I used Handi-Tack (The putty-like stuff used to hang posters) that I got from WalMart. First, I tore a piece off and rolled it into a ribbon. Then I placed that piece where I wanted it and took another piece and pulled it into a little sheet to mask off the rest of the white before I sprayed the red. It works really well for masking compound curves with sharp demarcation lines. Hope that helps!

I almost did mine as “White 12”, but decided at the last minute to do “Black 8.” Yours should be a sharp looking plane, be sure to post some pics!

Frank!

That looks great, buddy. I’ve been waiting to see this one done, and here it is!

Very, very nice!

All I can say is [:O] [:O] [:O]! That is just one awesome scheme youve got there, I love it!!

Oh, man, I love it! The desert paint scheme with the mottling is darn near perfect. Now I want to build one.

And to reiterate prior posts, the whitewalls are especially well executed.

Well done! [tup][#toast]

Well done! Love the paint job. What type of airbrush did you use?
