Tamiya 1/48 Lancaster Cockpit set.....Help please ?

Hi,
I am looking for an after market cockpit detail set for a 1/48 Tamiya lancaster…the one in the kit is lacking the fine details that you get in the later Tamiya and Hasegawa kits.
Problem is…can’t find one…
Does anyone know if one is made in resin or photo etch ?
Thanks
Ian

Flightpath makes an etch set for the 1/48th scale Lanc. You can order it at Greatmodels (its kinda pricey).

Hi…thanks for the details on the Flightpath etch set…bur OUCH !..$48 for an etch set !!
Does anyone know of an alternative ?
Thanks

Good Evening
Other than the Flight Path photo etch I know of no aftermarket set for the Lanc. cockpit in 1/48. And if there was ever a kit that needed a superdetailed pit, its this one. Its big, wide open and under lots of glass. I wish that Cutting Edge, Aries, or even FM Details from Hungary would do one. I have one waiting on the shelf, and thats all I need. I’ve not seen the Flight Path set, but I hear its badly overpriced for what you get.
The only other option is to line up your referance materials and do it yourself.

Derwin, waiting for a good resin set…

Are you talking about the Tamiya kit no. 61504 or the older one. Are they the same?
I ask because I was looking forward to buying one, but I’d hate to pay so much and being dissapointed about the lack of detail.

G’day,

The only stuff I plan on doing is the resin Bomb Bay / Dam Buster conversions, planed for June '05 release, for the current ‘Grand Slam’ Lancaster kit, by Tamiya, we could look at doing a cockpit interior set.

Scale Magic are in Oz, but can be contacted by email: scalemagic2004@yahoo.com

I hope this helps

Hi,
There are two older Tamiya 1/48 Lancasters. 61020 is the BI/BIII kit and 61021 is the Grandslam/Dambusters kit, 61504 is the newest kit where the engine parts have been replaced by the silly battery powered motors.
As far as I am aware the cockpit interior parts are the same on all 3 kits… decals for the control panels and radio, but no seatbelts or pedels and little floor and bulkhead/sidewall details…with all that glass a cockpit aftermarket set is really needed.
Thats why I originally posted…I would have thought a kit which has been around 30 years would have loads of aftermarket add-ons available.
Steelsnail…remember the bulk of this kit has 30 year old molds…
and Rob at Scalemagic…make all these people with Lancaster kits sat on the shelf really happy…make an cockpit detail set…PLEASE !

Thanks for the info imaguigan. I think I’ll pass on that big bird and wait to see how hasegawas 1/72 offering comes out.

Mmmm…Hasegawa has a 1/72 Lancaster coming out…could be interesting.
Now…if Trumpeter brought out a 1/48 Lancaster…new molds instead of Tamiya’s 30 year old ones, detailed cockpit, engine parts, nicely engraved panel lines, parts that fit together perfectly and undercut Tamiya on price…that would be interesting.
Trumpeter…where art thou ?

I have that old Dambuster/Grandslam kit, and I agree, it does need a detail set. I paid good money for the kit, and I don’t want to fork over 50 bucks for an aftermarket set. Maybe our winter of discontent will be coming to an end soon.

I’ve used Flightpath etch sets before, and they’re really good quality, and cram LOADS of parts onto the fret. There are also usually extras that are added as time goes by. They’re not for the faint hearted, and require a steady hand for all the folding that will be required. The fightpath site says this about the set:

It’s 30GBPs for me in the UK, so $48 isn’t THAT bad, considering greatmodels are having to import it AND make a profit. Hope that helps make your mind up.

Does anybody have a set of directions for the older kit they would be willing to part with? I have the old Tamiya kit but no directions…I could give it a go with no directions but I really like the kit and I don’t want to mess it up. Thanks!
