Tamiya 1/48 FW 190 A-8?

Hey Guys, new to posting on the forum, but long time FSM subscriber.

Has anyone heard anything else about Tamiya’s 1/48 FW 190 A-8 kit? I came across it on their website, and was a complete surprise. Is it the same Dragon/Trimaster mold re-packaged, or something they drew up themselves?

Box art was pretty cool. Definitely fills a gap in market- seems like there’s lots of A-8 decals out, but you always had to convert an F-8 or A-3 kit, or rummage for the Dragon kit.

Thanks guys!

Welcome to the Forum [#welcome]. Haven’t heard much about it, but I doubt it’s based on the Dragon tooling, which the new Hasegawa A3 is. Most likely a modified version of their F kit.

Welcome! From what I understand it is their FW 190 F8 modified to make an A8. I like the kit but it has some issues ( I think cowl and landing gear) I’m sure someone will post that knows more than me. Do you think the Trimaster rammjager will come down in price since there is an alternative(They usually go for around 100$ on Ebay. Way too much for me )Hasegawa is retooling the Dragon kit to make a new A3 that sounds like it should be pretty nice. Hopefuly they will put out several versions like they did with the BF109.

Thanks for the reply ron b!

I’m looking forward to picking one up anyways- there were so many decal options from Eagle Cals for A-8s, so I’m glad Tamiya is filling the gap.

I don’t think the price on the Trimasters will drop though- remember that they come with the P/E, and I think people buy them just as collectibles, not necessarily to build, since the company is closed.

Looking forward to the Hasegawa A-3 too, but we’ll see- Tamiya’s is pretty solid still.

I just bought this kit and I must say it looks very nice. I’ve chosen to do the version on the box cover as I really like the look of the black cowling. Assembly will begin this week and I will let you know if I encounter any “issues”.

Thanks Espins1! Looking forward to the pics!

I really liked the version on the box cover too- I’m such a sucker for box art, thus the overwhelming amount of Hasegawa kits in my collection.

Kind regards,
