I finished this one earlier today. Paint is Vallejo Model Air throughout, finished with a roughly 5:2 mix of Vallejo gloss and matte varnish for a shiny, but not too shiny finish.
Aftermarket additions include Eduard seatbelts and Techmod decals. This was the first time I’ve used Techmod decals, and I was pleased with them. My only minor gripe is they took a very long time to release from the paper. “White 155” from VF-84 was the aircraft I chose to replicate. Additional detailing was added to the windshield/gun sight, engine, landing gear, wing folds and tail wiring. I used white washi tape to replicate the tape covering on the guns and the panel lines around the fuel tank. Weathering was done with oils, pastels and a silver artist pencil. I took photos in natural and artificial light- getting photos to capture the subtle weathering was a challenge. This was my first ever attempt tackling Glossy Sea Blue, and I’m pretty happy with the results. I also used Fundekals ammo box decals to replicate the “ammo box salad” so commonly seen on the left wing of late war F4U1D/FG1D Corsairs.
I love Corsairs, and building Tamiya’s fantastic kit. WIP and completed photos to follow. As always, feedback is welcomed. Enjoy!
