Tamiya 1/48 F4U1A Masks

Hello;

I am trying to locate Eduard canopy masks for the Tamiya F4U1A but all I can find is for the F4U1D. Were the canopys for the 1A and 1D the same.

I think the 1A is the “Birdcage” Corsair so I think theres a difference with the framework. Some one will surely correct me if I`m wrong…lol

The -1A isn’t the birdcage, but the canopy’s a bit different from the -1D.

This decal sheet shows the differences. The F4U-1/2 birdcage is pretty distinct.

The F4U-1A (second) ditched the rear windows and adopted a more rounded canopy with two frames running front to back.

The F4U-1D/FG-1D (top) kept the same overall shape as the -1A, but used a frameless canopy similar to the Malcom hood on P-51B/Cs.

Thanks Doogs that is some great info. But I guess Eduard doesnt make a mask for the 1A.

The -1D mask includes masks for both the framed and frameless bubble, so yes, it works with the 1A. No need for a dedicated 1A mask - but I really wish they made that more clear (maybe call it the F4U-1A/D mask?)

Thanks I was looking at the instrution sheet for the 1D but didnt notice that. I dont even have the kit yet but its been shipped.

Does anyone know were I might get this mask. Spru brothers is out of stock and its not even listed at Eduard.

Check Squadron.com …they carry masks too.

Squadron’s located three hours from me, but they are sloooow to ship. As in, I’ve had stuff I’ve ordered from Hannants in the UK AFTER placing a Squadron order arrive a few days ahead of said Squadron order.
