Here’s the Tamiya F-15C 1/48 scale kit. It is Painted entirely of Model Master acrylics. The body was airbrushed in light gray with dark gray camoflauge. I used silly putty when airbrushing, but later realized the edges should have been soft. It was my first time trying the silly putty, so I got carried away. But it does work great!
I added the pilot, but I could not get the helmet looking good. I tried three or four different colors (flat white, blue, gloss white and finally silver) but nothing looked good to me. I finally left the silver since it was the only finish that actually had a sheen to it. I lightly weathered the plane, but that doesn’t appear to have come through in the pictures for some reason. It actually doesn’t look too bad to my eye as I have the model in front of me.
Any comments would be appreciated. I learned a few things, most importantly to use a gloss coat before applying the decals and then spraying the flat coat over them when finished. Otherwise I’m happy with it. My son was my biggest critic, but, as the final picture attests, I think he was happy with the final product!
Very well done! Nice clean build but those panel lines should have been washed so they would show up otherwise it a very well done model!
Tip… Pilot helmets, spray a primer coat of gloss white over the entire pilot figure then paint accordingly with flats and do not paint the helmet instead trim and add decals to get the effect you want. Paint pilots visor gloss black. Brushing Future over pilots helmet will also add gloss effect and it’s also great for decal adhesion.
Thank you for the suggestions, especially regarding the pilot. How do you go about doing a panel wash? I’ve heard about this technique but am unsure of how best to accomplish it. I more or less experimented with the recessed panel lines on the vertical fins by using a permanent marker before I sprayed the first gray coat. But I’m not too happy the way it came out. Any assistance here would be greatly appreciated.
hey hogan thats a real nice build, the easiest method for me on the panel lines i s a sharp carbon, and graphite pencil you just draw them in were you want them,i also use a micron pen to fill in those rivet holes then you take a q-tip and pull the wet ink back note don’t pull all of the holes back just a few here and there, thats the way i do panel lines i know theres better ways but this is quick and basically painless enjoy[:D]
