Anyone got any B-GOOP (BEE-goop = B*tches, Gripes, Or Other Paraphernalia) about this one?
I got it for 20.00 bucks shipped, (New In Box, but haven’t received it yet)… I haven’t done any Tamiya aircraft (except the 80’s release of the A6M2 Zeke) in the past… If you can compare it’s antenna rigs and cockpit detail-level to the Monogram Mosquito (My only twin-enigned RAF nightfighter, other than Revell’s 1/32 Beau), that’d be a great cross-reference for me to plan ahead on what parts to start digging out… Also, are there figures?
Also, can it be converted to a Coastal Command TorBeau without much fuss (and NO after-market parts from a commercial source, please) or is it a nightfighter-only kinda kit?
Ja, odd, I know… But it’s an AIRCRAFT kit, which is the odd part (although I’m bidding on a Buffalo right now too)… Bought lots of Tamiya armor… Tamiya (and Italeri) armor is my “Monogram (and Revell)” for 1/35th scale kits…
I built the Coastal Command boxing a few years back. It’s an excellent kit, typical Tamiya. I’m not sure, since I don’t have the NF version, but my guess is that it could be built as a Coastal Comand a/c with what’s in the box.
Hans, I built a Mediterranean version last fall. That’s a steal for that kit. Great fits throughout. It’s also a scratchbuilder’s dream. Even though it won’t show, there is a ton of fun to be had detailing the interior fuselage behind the cockpit. The cockpit itself begs for a lot of attention, because it is visible. Wheel wells, engines, details galore. It’s a great choice, Hans, have fun with it. Rick
Hans, I think you can build any, either, or all the boxed versions of this aircraft. I know that my version was boxed as the fighter/bomber with rockets, but had the option to build the night fighter. I did not have the torpedo for the coastal command version, but I did have the option for the rear machine gun or the gunless dome. I’d be curious to know if you had the fighter/bomber rockets option in your kit. I am loving how Tamiya includes so many extra parts in their kits. I recently purchased their P-47M and it had four different propellers included. What a find for the spare parts drawer. Rick
I believe it’s exactly the same s the “standard” Mk.VI kit, except moulded in black and (possibly) different markings. Oddly enough, you can make the NF using the standard kit. The rockets are on the same sprues as the props, so you should have those. Unfortunately, as noted above, no fish, which comes with the TF. Mk.X kit.
The Coastal Command version is the Mk 10, and the most obvious difference is the shape of the rear fuselage blister, which is not the same as in the box. It does have the .303 gun. If I remember accurately, there is also a spine fin extending from the base of the tail fin. A look at references would be advisable if you are going for a conversion. HTH.
