Tamiya 1/48 Arado 196A

Maybe I missed it,but is this a brand new kit or a rebox of another kit ? Does anybody know what quality this kit is ? It certainly has a Tamiya price tag $61.00 from GM.but it is an interesting subject.

Haven’t seen it, but I believe it’s a rebox of the recent Italeri release.

Note at the bottom of the page:

  • Aircraft parts are made by Italeri.

It’s a re-pop of the Italeri kit. Tamiya’s website says as much:

The Italeri kit has a number of quite serious outline and detail issues, as discussed in this review:

The extra $7.00 gets you a couple of crew figures and Tamiya decals.

Personally, I’d wait for the Revell Europe 1/32 kit, due out in Europe in October, and available in the UK to pre-order for £17.99:

thanks guys,I’ll probably pass on this one.

Wow, Tamiya didn’t wait too long to boot-leg this one…

Due respect to Tamiya - they have an agreement with Italeri, and re-pop quite a lot of their stuff, especially for the Far Eastern and Australasian market.

Cheers,

Chris.

Take for example the 1/72 scale A-6E Intruder that Tamiya had out some years ago was a repop of the Italeri kit. Revel of Germany does the same thing with Italeri kits as well.

It may be a repop with some accuracy issues but i think aggieman built it recently and it looked superb…I won’t hesitate snapping it up when it shows up at the LHS…

In that case, get the Italeri version, if it’s available in Oz. It’s cheaper and has better decals.
