OK this is going to be my next Build. The HUll is already together. More to come soon…Cheers mark
OK most of the major Sub-Assemblies are now together awaiting their P/E. More to come soon…Cheers Mark
Surfsup, great progress on the kit. Japan’s destroyers during the war were some of the best looking ships.
Nice project, who’s upgrade kit is that?
I agree Mate. They are some of my favourite Ships…Cheers mark
The upgrade set is from Infini…Cheers mark
OK some of the Assemblies have been upgraded. Lots of small P/E to handle. More to come soon…Cheers mark
I built one of those for a friend. I found I had trouble with the round railings and I used the brass barrels. Some of the P/E can be a bit of a headache, especially when it comes to the depth charge systems and there were parts for a second weapon near the forward gun. I’ve been thinking of making one for myself but I have two battleships waiting and they are the priority at the moment. I’m also thinking abouit the Fuso but that one is pricy. and I have to bet a lot of 40mm guns for the New Jersey.
So far have not had a problem but am now prewarned. Thanks mate…Cheers Mark
OK both sets of Tubes have now been fully P/E detailed and it was a load of fun sic…Will have some more soon…Cheers mark
Not to insult you!
At this time that one structure kinda looked like a P.E. loaded Toilet?, at this juncture in assembly! The P.E. certainly is plentiful, isn’t it? Good job so far though. The only I.J.N. ship I have right now is the “Akagi” and I have to figure out how NOT to damage any of the P.E. by trying to strip the paint. I Had a bad experience with the Tamiya Acrylics, (First Time Using it!) Didn’t know that to brush it I had to add retarder!
Thanks Mate. The “Toilet Seat” is the base for the Second Funnel…Cheers mark
I thought that section was a strange design, but sometimes their ships had some odd structures and you just have to wonder why that shape.
On the Akagi you might notice some strange things too, like lights in the middle of the flight deck, the track under the reap part of the flight deck, and some supports that look like they were last minute emergency add ons. Don’t forget, that was a warship conversion that added about 10,000 tons to the weight of the ship.
And don’t forget the retractable Searchlights on the Flightdeck of the Akagi…Cheers Mark
IJN really worked on airflow around the stacks of their ships.
Part of this was in supplying feed air to the boilers, and in being able to preheat that air to improve boiler efficiency.
They also address, especially in Destroyers, the ability to have stacks that would “bloom” buring oil smoke screens in a rapid and predictable way. But, some of the capital ships had dramatics stacks–see Yamato.
Some of that came down to trunking the boilers both for intake and for uptake too. Having an even “draw” on all the boilers (IJN had a habit of fewer, smaller) means not having to rely as much on blowers to pressurize the system to keep the draw even.
Does make for some unusual, even organic, shapes.
Quite true. Makes for sometimes an ugly look but attractive in a funny sort of way…Cheers Mark
