Hey Ranger,
On this project, Tamiya’s instructions called for a flat yellow to be applied to
the lug nuts. As a result, I brushed them with Model master insignia yellow.
In the field this coating probably wore out to look much more weathered. I suspect
the yellow color to better identify them through all of the dirt and mud collected
on the wheels…It might have also been some sort of anti-corosion application.
Maybe someone else might add to this?

Most likely to represent the bare metal lug nuts and screw posts. Road wheels are changed quite often and no paint remains on the mounting hardware for long.
Thanks for clearing that up. Wouldn’t something that has been stripped of paint be a bare metal color or rust?
