Tamiya 1/35 Russian JS3 Stalin finished.

This is an old kit I picked up from my LHS sometime ago. I bought it because it is cheap and to help me do my first weathering. So just in case I screw up the model …… well just for practice. This is my second tank btw. The first one end up as a test bed for me warming up after a long slumber from this hobby.

Kit assembled with no problem. One thing I don’t like is that the hull sponson have no floors, so tracks are visible when removing the hull.

Since I don’t know if I’m going to put it into a dio yet, I just gave it a nice easy color and weathering.
Coloring the kit started with a good primer, then gun metal color and then paint.
Coloring this tank is done completely with brush since I’m still new with using an airbrush. Need practice I guess.

The mud for the wheels are from my Mom’s unused cosmetic powder. I notice one day in her bathroom that she has this cosmetic set that has been sitting then for over 25 years. I ask her if she would not mind giving it to me. When she said “take it” I just snacth it in a heard beat.

Surprisingly they just stick there easily although I dare not take my tank for a shower one day. But they actually gave a good impression of dirt and light mud.
After that is just touch up here and there, sag the tracks here and there, and I call it done !

Comments welcome naturally. [:)]

Good job Ben on the “Pike”. Interesting choice on the weathering. Huh, no rouge? LOL Just teasing. Maybe you’re onto something here. Curious, is there a reason that the gas tank on the port rear is almost black?

Was it really that cheap? I thought they were kind of spendy.

Nice build there. I like the rough cast steel look on the turret.

Thanks for the comments.

Heh, no rouge for it today.
Reason the fuel drum tank different from the rest; actually all of the fuel drums are different. I paint them using different methods; one of them did not get a gun metal coat, one of them just russian green coat, two of them got gun metal coat. Beside that, I saw a pic in the net that most of their drums are sometime quite beat up, so it is a perfect trial and error for those fuel drums.

The one you are mentioning received a gun metal coat, then flat black, then a splat of green.

For the price, I bought like US$ 18 because it is old and on sale.

Turned out nice.Great job on your 2nd tank. I think also you got a real good deal on the price.

You did a very nice JS 3 Carves. Very nice weathering.

hi carves-- nice job man-- like the rough cast on turret–at first i thought it might be too rough but after looking closer at some pics i have i think it looks right on-- also i like the different fuel drum color-- hey, who knows-- maybe it was changed over cause of battle damage!-- i like the build— treadwell[:P]

Great job on the Stalin. One of my favourite vehicles.

Don’t you just love the rough apearance of these beasts? [:D]

Looking very good for your second tankmodel!

Looks nice. How old am I that this kit is being referred to as “old?” [(-D]

Great job! Like the weathering!

Thanks for all the kind words and comments.

I hope with an airbrush, and more free time (yea right), and more kits (if wallet permit) I can learn to get better result and become a better modeller like you all.
