I am currently building the Tamiya 1/35 M40 (TAM 35351) and have gotten to step 9 of attaching the differential cover but no matter how hard I try I cannot close a small gap on the side am I doing something wrong?
Sorry, after a lenghty investigation I was only able to find one photo, the one I reposted.
It’s kinda hard to help with fit issues, without the option of actually laying hands on the parts… First question is did you already glue the parts? If yes then you have two options - fill and sand the gap or take them apart again. If you didn’t glue the parts or you were able to take them apart again, then you have to look carefully for things like sprue attachment points not sanded proparly, or flash or similar casting artefacts. If these are taken care of, then you have to check if other parts are aligned properly and correct if necessary. In case of Tamiya models that should be enough. Try dry fitting the parts SEVERAL TIMES, that should give you the idea what’s in the way of good fit, then you can take care of it by cutting off the ofending part or realigning everything properly.
By the way the photo I found shows some problems with alignment, of the towing hook attachment points for example - you might want to correct them soon, that will be easier than doing it later, or looking at them misaligned for years (I say that from experience!).
That’s actually all I can tall you at this point, good luck with your build and have a nice day
Thabks for your reply I appreciate it, here is the gap I am referring to and the hooks they are not set tightly so I can fix. In terms of fit it is not glued yet. Here are more pics so you can take a better look!
Here are your other two pictures. To post them here, start by clicking on the Share tab at the top of the postimage page. Next, copy the HTTP:… for the image in the Direct Link block. Now come here and select the button that looks like a mountain and a sun above when posting your message. Paste the HTTP:… for the pic into the Source block and hit OK. Do the above for each pic individually and your pics should show like below.
Looks like some major alignment issues. Follow what Pawel says above and you should be good. Good luck.
It is better, but the transmission is still angled down too much in the front. It should be level with the bottom of the hull. This will also get rid of the gap at the top of the transmission and bottom edge of the top hull front.
I follow the steps but it wouldn’t work and thanks to you and Pawel for telling me to realign everything. The transmission according to instructions do angle down from what I can see
If you mean the gap at the top between transmission and D96 is no longer there I was just dry fitting it when I took the pic. But I do have a question is the transmission suppose to have a slight angle downwards?
