Tamiya 1/32 F-4J

I’ve heard good things and bad things about this kit. Can anyone please tell me what its like: inaccuracies, poorfit, good fit, detail?

Also are there any 1/32 decals for Showtime 100, the cunningham /driscoll ace plane?

thanks

The tamiya F4J that i bought comes with showtime 100. The fit is awsome on this kit the only issue is the intakes you can buy Aftermarket seamless sucker intakes for it but its just easer to plug them with FOD covers as for gaps theres just two under the fusalage by the intakes. Tamiya makes the best F4 kit on the market in my opinon. I had a blast building it and it was my first big 1/32 tamiya jet i attemted the was so nice i evan picked up the F4 C/D there that nice.

The Kit number on my box is 60306 This kit has Showtime100 decals in it no need to buy aftermarket ones. Another thing if you want you can pick up the Black Box Cockpit set comes with everthing you need for the cockpit vary nice i bought one for mine i think it was 45bucksUS, the kit number i mentioned i only payed $82.00 dollers it i beleve if your paying more than that for this kit your getting ripped[2c]

Thanks Smokin

ahh $108 on squadron! everywhere else I looked had prices around $140 so I figured this was best. You mentioned a black box cockpit set. Is the OOB cockpit Tamiya quality or do you think it would be best to find a replacement?

Thanks again

Cockpits fine out of the box, But i was told not vary accurate. Heres mine with the BB cockpit.

It has alot better detail than the kit parts. And 108 is still alittle pricy but if you dont have a LHS that has i guess thats your only choice.

If you can get it for $108, go for it. The kit retails for $121.00 to $155.00 depending on who sells it.

The kit is very good out of the box. As mentioned, get the AM cockpit which will make it better. Seemless Suckers intakes are no longer available and the intakes made by Cutting Edge are worse than the original. You will have to fill in the kit supplied intakes or cover with intake covers. Get a set of the resin wheels and throw the rubber tires away. Make sure you order the Navy type and not the USAF type. I would also recommend the Eduard PE update # 32 530. It gives parts to really dress up the kit.

The Sidewinders supplied with the kit are the wrong type. They are the AIM-9E which was used only by the Air Force. The Navy used the AIM-9D/G/H missiles. Get the Cutting Edge AIM-9D/G/H missile set, # CEC32037.

Load out of Showtime 100 on its MIG killing mission is as follows. Outboard stations empty. No 370 gal tanks or pylons carried. Inboard stations, TER with 3 each MK. 20 Rockeye loaded each station. Two each AIM-9G loaded each station. Centerline station had the MDD 600 gal tank loaded. Aft missile wells, AIM-7E loaded. Forward missile wells were empty.

This forum really is a fantastic modeling tool

I just wanted to say thanks again. If the OOB cockpit is ok then I’ll add any details myself, I don’t really care for aftermarket parts. The loadout information is great too.

You guys were very helpful!

this kit i would say is one of the best i put together,it seemed to me that the kit actually wanted to go together the best thing is the one peice fuselage but here is a pic of my cockpit i think it’s a great one
