Ta.183 Complete

Here is another project that is one the table right now, a Tamiya (AM Tech) 1/48 Ta.183. Earlier I dropped the flaps in a fowler flap style and have now moved on to some other detail work. I’ve added the missile control station to the IP along with some PE levers and some Czech made IP decals to liven things up a bit. The missiles now feature a two tone metal finish with white detonator and drilled out engine exhaust ports. The back of the IP has been wire and will be visible when complete. I also added some wiring and plumbing to the inside fuselage walls in the cockpit.

Matt WOW that is awesome.

Very very nice work, Matt! Your detailing never ceaases to amaze me!

I’ve been busy this week on this one. The seat has been replaced with a Quick Boost He-162 ejection seat, also from Quick Boost are the new nose with gear bay and engine nozzle. Both of these have a few fit issues needing both shims and putty. You can see where I have not fully addressed one gap in the tail yet. The crappy engine bay has been replaced with an Aires piece that is a direct drop-in with perfect fit. I dropped the flaps and will be replacing the canopy with a vac set.

Looking great so far[tup] I like the extra detail you gave the missiles.

Another beauty from your shop! Lots of extra work on this bird, but it sure is paying off. Well done! [:D]

[#ditto] Only good stuff to say! The missiles caught my eye. When I was stationed in Ft Stewart GA in the mid eighties there was a draught and the swamps shrank and dried in places revealing 2 or 3 of something that looked really close to those. I know it is a sorta what if model but it makes me wonder if any were made or tested like the V-1 and V-2 out in White Sands. They weren’t target drones. I am familiar with those. May never know as I am sure they were reclaimed by the swamp.

The missiles were actually made and tested with mixed results. The Ta.183 was under production at the end of the war but with only one prototype close to finish and I think 16 others in various stages when the factory was overrun.

Another stunner on the way Matt, Do you do a real job? LOL. Love the intrument panel. As has been mentioned, your attention to detail, blows me away.

When I’m not modeling or monitoring my website, or making videos, or writing articles I do occasionally work as a plant engineer, chemical services, research and development and am an electrician. Every now and then I cram in a couple hours to fly real planes. Makes me feel worn out just thinking about all of it.[%-)] One thing is for certain - I don’t get bored.

Looks very nice swanny.

Got some color on this bird tonight.

I’m really diggin it, Swanny![8D]

Matt, this is absolutely awesome!!! I love the look of this stubby little jet. As always, your paintwork is top notch!

I’ve got a question about Quickboost. Other than the fit issues, what’s your take on the quality of the castings? I’ve ordered some bits from them (P-61 engines, some gunsights) and I was just curious. The stuff on the site looks tantelizing, but of course they’re going to put their best on display. Thanks, Matt!

I’ve used several different Quick Boost sets over the last year and have been suitably impressed with all of them. Cannot recall any micro-bubbles, short casting or warpage. Another thing is they tend to engineer the piece for fewest individual parts as possible to achieve the desired results. This can be good or bad depending on the subject. With their engines I would say they are a step up from OOB but not up to something like a Vector engine.

Looking very nice Swanny. I love the yellow tipped birds and it looks right on this one.

Did the Huckbein ever fly? even after the war?

Did you see 'Chukw’s 183. That ws another awesome build.

#Edit# I found his build. /forums/2/734316/ShowPost.aspx#734316

While the Ta.183 did not fly Kurt Tank did end up in Argentina and developed the design into an operational jet.

Thanks for the helpful advice, Matt! The price on these items seems very reasonable. Plus I can get them very cheap at the hobbyshop I work at. I will keep this in mind when I order in the future.

Keep up the work on this one. This is a great looking plane, a nice addition to any collection! I’ve been pondering buying one, myself!

First top color is on. Nothing real special here but the serpentine wing wrap-around on the camo should look pretty good when all the masks come off. Maybe tomorrow night I can get the next color down.

More paint.
