Probably not my best effort ever (but heck it’s only a Sherman, eh??!), and it might not be too accurate either 'cause I had rather limited resources and no 3-view drawings to use, just pics, but it’s still looking alright, no?!
The scratchbuilt turret part was fun to do, I enjoyed adding the details on the hull but I did positively hate that Fujimi kit. The whhels were very poor in great part due to the mismatch of the two sides of the mold…
Robert, I was only kidding about the Shermans, you know! I do love some variants and the ‘Easy 8’ is one of them… [:D]
Domi,
that’s PDC (pretty darn cool) IMHO…the turret reminds me of some raiden armor from anime cartoons; i guess it’s true that there’s a prototype for just about everything !
BTW, i really enjoyed the Cambrai post; the model was fantastic and the historical background was a nice touch.
re: Tena, it’s sure nice to have pics of another young female modeler working on a project… maybe now my friends won’t think i’m so weird after all !

Domi, Excellent job on that Sherm as always!! Love seeing your work even if it does resemble a bug eyed ant eater [;)] (That was for Roberts benefit [:D] )
You did a really great job on that though and quick too!! I can’t even get a model washed in the time you build one [:p] Keep it up and keep showing them to us!
Brian-sama:
don’t u think it’s very anime-looking ? all it needs is more color !
i bet u can find some pics to upload that resemble it (hint hint)…
frosty[:)]
I guess it is true, there is no gain without some pain. The kit may leave a lot to be desired, but the end result sure doesn’t. It sure looks imposing all right.
Frosty and Juniormodeler,
Alas, I am not much of an anime fan…I’m a tokusatsu fan!
But I know whatcha mean about this crazy tank.
Kind of like a Miyazaki Hayao design, from “Nausicaa,” maybe.
And to think this one’s real!
Miyazaki-san is a big AFV fan, you know. Has anyone seen his manga series about Otto Carius featuring all the human characters as pigs, a la his anime film “Kurenai no Buta?” (The Crimson Pig)
Pretty interesting stuff.
WOW, dj ! I had no idea that your talents were so diverse ! I’ve seen your WW I a/c & your scratchbuilt figures, and now this ! Is there any medium at which you DON’T excel ? GREAT WORK ! ! ! Nice photos, too ! What camera do you use ? I have a Canon Power Shot G2 (4 megapix) & I love it !
Thanks Guys (and Gal) for your nice comments. It’s very much appreciated, and give me what it takes to build yet more models!
Pixilater, my camera is the Nikon Coolpix 775. I’ve had it since the spring, as my older digicam died after falling on the floor (!). Still, it’s a MUCH better quality camera and I’m really happy with it. It’s only in the 2 megapixels range but I manage to get great shots, and the macro is very effective. I got my wife the Coolpix 2100, which is the same basic camera but with a few extra adds-on. Both cost about £200 (or $300).
Hey guys (and gals!), camera talk might not be a bad idea for another forum topic!
I just bought a Canon PowerShot A70 (3.2 mega pixels) and am now just learning my way around it. Seems to be a decent camera.
It would be nice to share ideas and techniques about taking pix of our babies, too![:D]
What a GREAT idea, J-Hulk ! Just as there are ways to improve our modelling skills, there are ways that we can improve our photographic skills.
dj - I got an INCREDIBLE deal on my camera. I bought it from Abe’s of Maine (located in NYC !). It was a $900 camera for $400 !
J-Hulk - the BEST thing about learning to use a digital camera is the easy learning curve. Just shoot away, trying different things. You get INSTANT results, & you NEVER have to buy film again ! Many cameras come w/ photo editing software, so you can adjust it the way YOU want it, & not the way the auto processing film development & printing GUESSES that you want it. My suggestion, in learning your new camera, is to use only the manual settings (no auto), and don’t use flash. This way, you gain an understanding of what the camera is doing, and you get more control over the pic. If you need ANY help with things about the camera (new things can sometimes be confusing !), feel free to ask, I’m here to help, & I’m only a few keystrokes & a mouse-click away !
Have FUN with your new toy !
