Did the T28 super heavy tank ever make it into service? If it did this thing sounds massive from reading the specifications on the page linked below.[:|]

No it did not. It was too late for WWII (although it probably would have been used if it had taken us a few more months to force the Germans into surrender), and it wasn’t well-suited for the Japanese environments, so it wasn’t really ever used.
But it was half the weight of the German super-heavy Maus tank:
They’ve moved it from its normal spot in front of the Patton Museum. I don’t know if it has already been sent down to Ft. Benning. Only two of these were made, and only one is left. The outer tracks were designed to detach, reattach together and be towed behind the vehicle like a trailer during transport on railways or narrow roads.
I think it was not a “Tank”, it was more of an heavily-armored assault gun developed to use against the Siegfred Line.
I’d be cautious as treating these pics from ww2drawings as anything but nice arty stuff, as some of the ones I’ve seen are definately ‘off’

Given all of the paper panzers that are kitted, how I would love to see one of these beasts in 1/35th scale styrene! Would be great to create a diorama pitting a T-28 facing off against Trumpeter’s forthcoming E-100 Stug in a Berlin '46 diorama. A styrene T-28 kit would probably cost a fortune with all the plastic and take forever with all of the suspension and track links (unless we got some Magic Tracks, eh, Dragon…?)
I voted for this one in FSM’s Most Wanted Kits poll… While it most likely wouldn’t sell as well as Sherman kits, I do think this odd ball — which is a very German-esque Allied assault gun (i.e. slow, heavily-armored, impossible to recover on the battlefield) — would nonetheless appeal to many modelers. Same for the British Tortise assault gun. Time for some Allied “paper panzers”!!
Maybe we’ll see a kit some day — or will have to save up for the AA resin kit, which is about $170.00 without shipping…
By the way, probably twenty years ago or more I remember somebody in Military Modeler magazine did a great job scratchbuilding the T-28… Might be a good one to track down…

I would love to see one in 1/35 scale. Indy tracks would take forever with the four track links.
I’d love to see this in 1/35 as well. But what I’d like to see less is the bankruptcy of the company who makes the kit. The kit sales would SUUUUUUUCCCCK. No doubt about it.
Dragon already has the suspension and the tracks in one-piece DS. They would just need to make them longer.
I think it would sell well; it’s like an American Jadgpanzer (although it would more properly be a Sturmgeschutz).
I voted for it in the FSM polls, both in 1:48 and 1:35. Whatever i can get really. This thing is a MONSTER! I doubt we will ever see any prototype tank that isnt German… (frustrated sad face)
This tank really isn’t THAAAAT big… I mean, like 1/3 of it’s length is the gun, and the main body isn’t much longer than any other tank. It’s just the quad tracks that I think prevents it’s production in 1/35. Too bad the thing never saw service- it is an impressive vehicle.
Speaking of the T-28 Super Heavy Tank project, I wanted to link Armourguy’s build blog to this one, for those of you who haven’t seen it, but I can’t find it anymore. I can’t even find the posts I made to it. Did it get lost in the forum upgrade?
Also, I do recall seeing a kitbash in 1/35, too, but I don’t recall if that was online or in a magazine.

The T-28 would be a cool vehicle in plastic. I can see a company like hobby boss release one since they are on the paper panzer, or prototype trend. The T28 does use M26 Perishing tracks and the wheels and modified running gear of a HVSS Sherman tank.
