The only aftermarket parts that I know of for the DML T-80 (and there aren’t too many) are from SP Designs. You can find them at:

Just click on “SP Designs” when you get to the page. HTH

One other thing, Eduard does make a p/e set for the DML T-80.

Damn, kaleu, you know your modern soviet armor. Now if I were to ask you what versions of the T-72 conversions were availabel for, what would you say?

Barrel Depot makes a 125mm gun for the T-80, #35011. The Eduard set for the DML kit is #35328 and the Eduard set for the Skif T-80UD is #35191. I think the Eduard set for the DML T-80 is specifically for kit #3506 T-80 MBT, but can probably be used on DML kit #3512 T-80U(SMT-1989) or DML kit #3505 T-80 w/ERA.

For the T-72, there are quite a few sets available for it depending on whether you have the newer Tamiya T-72, Kirin T-72M1 Lion of Babylon, Kirin Yugoslav/Free Kuwait M-84, DML T-72M2, T-72G/M, or T-72M2 w/ERA. Believe it or not, Eduard’s first 1/35 scale armor PE set #35001 is for the DML T-72M. Their latest set #35329 is for the T-72M2 w/ERA.

Commander’s makes a neat little PE and white metal gill armor set for the T-72 and Kirin made a conversion for the DML T-72 to convert it into the T-90 (set #28521).

There’s a bunch more stuff geared towards the Tamiya T-72 as well.

ive seen lots of stuff for the t72 but hardly any for the t80 but ths for all the help

ill just build it oob then maybe get a t72 [;)]

thx

I buy and build a lot of modern russian armor. What WW2 German is to some people, modern russian armor is to me. I just can’t believe I forgot about the aftermarket barrels for the T-80 considering I have several of them in my barrel stash. [:(] I like the T-80, too bad there isn’t enough room between the upper and lower hulls to put on the upper track run. Maybe Tamiya or Trumpeter will surprise us with a new T-80[:D]

Wasn’t the T-80 basically a dead end design much like the T-64? I think they decided to put more work into the T-72/T-90 series than continue with the T-80.

The T-80 was a continuation of the T-64 but with some design elements of the T-72. The T-80 was to be a less expensive version of the T-64. Some 6,000+ T-80’s and variants were built by the time the USSR ceased to exist. I’m not certain if the russians are continuing to build the tank or not.

OK, I love modern Soviet armor too. Terre Models makes a T-90 conversion that I have unearthed in my wanderings over the internet. But for the T-80 there is barely anything. My goal is to have the whole series eventually T-34, T-54, T-55, T-62, T-64, T-72, T-80, T-90 and eventually maybe even the new Chiorny Oriol MBT.

lol yeah, I wouldn’t mind getting a kit of the Black Eagle. That and the Kirin M-84 conversion would be pretty sweet.

Modelpoint make brass 125mm barrels with and without thermal sleeves that can be used on the T80. They also make turned brass smoke grenade launchers, antenna pots and co-axial mg barrels that can be used on the T80 as well.

As far as I know, the latest variant of the T-80 is still in production, and in fact the manufacturers have developed a new variant, the T-80UM2. I can’t speak for the numbers of units produced per month, though, as much of the production of military equipment has ground to a halt, or a crawl.

The T-80UD was supposed to be sold to Pakistan, and the Pakistanis did take delivery of some for test, but the tanks delivered were garbage, full of engine and electronics problems, and the Pakistanis howled when they put them through tests – when they worked at all, they tested well below what the Ukis had assured them the tank would do. The Pakistanis apparently were not in the least interested in completing the order, which is just as well, as the Russians were furious that the Ukis had sold the T-80 to Pakistan, and were refusing to supply parts to manufacture T-80UDs because of the sale.
