T-54 Complete!

Well, along with all the other Armor I did for the Under New Ownership Group Build, I was able to complete this little guy as well:

He’s the PST kit that I’ve been wanting to build. Now he’s complete and sitting pretty with the rest of my Russian Army!

Comments are welcome.

Nicely done! How was this PST kit? Did it go together well? Any problems of note?
Thanks for sharing…

d

very nice!

Looks good Duke. Nice work.

Regards, Rick

Very nice Duke. Good washes/drybrushing. The anti-air gun came out pretty good too. The 50gal (or Liter??) drums look good. Did you have to file any to get them to go together so straight? Mine look like bent peices of mcdonalds straw. As I am putting mine together I like the scale “thinness” of the plastic, especially around the fenders is usually way too thick on 1/72 models.

Nicely done. How are PST kits in general?

Thanks fopr the great comments everyone!

Thank you I-beam. The drums were a bit difficult, but as I’ve done the T-5 kit before, I was ready for them this tiime. What you need to do is carve out the insides of the end pieces so that they fit around the lip of the center section. when you think you’ve carve dout enough, do a little more. By then, it should fit pretty well.

I agree about the fenders. PST does them right.

Thanks kaleu! I like PST kits. They have very good, crips molding with almost no flash. Part fit is very good for most of the kit. The one major exception is the 50 litre tanks mentioned above; but a little knife work usually solved that problem. You also need to watch out for soft plastic, PST tends to be a bit on the soft side. Also, many rivet counters have pointed out several inaccuracies concerning the shape and placement of the turret, but if you don’t care about those so much (like me) then this kit is a breeze to build! I definitely have never been dissappointed with any PST kits I’ve done. I only wish ACE would upgrade to this kind of quality! I’d say go for it.

Nice, the color of the tracks is a little too stark. Even a slightly used tank has tracks that are slightly darker in color, not rusty but a darker, more brownish tint to them.

I have to echo the sentiments of the PST plastic being too soft. Use extreme care when removing from the sprue and stick to softer sanding films or padded sanding sticks.

I’ve got the Part PE set for my PST T-55 and T-54. It is a decent set that looks like it’ll add just enough to the kit.

Nice, Duke!
Tracks and MG seem a little too bright to me, but maybe that’s just me.

Thanks Rob and Brian. Yeah, the wash I put in it didn’t take like I thought it would. It darkened a little, but not enough. I’ll have to get that fixed. The MG, I had painted with a metalliuc black, then dry-brushed with steel. I guess I dry-brushed a little too much on. I’ll look into fixing that as well.

I appreciate you pointing this out to me gentlemen Thank you. I’ll get to work on trying to fix it.
