Hello to all the good people of this forum,

I am srting a build of a Russian T-35 Heavy Tank. From what I have seen and read on the Internet there were only about 200 of these nks made, and most of those only saw limited action. Most posts that I have encountered of others building this model have been done in a green color with no camo. My question is does anyone here know of any other paint schemes for this nk? Maybe if one of you has a picture or know of some web site where I could get this info.

I recently bought that model, but have not yet started it.

My limited research has shown only green, and some versions parade polished, well-maintained green. I saw a whitewash version as an option, either on my model’s box top, the instructions, or somewhere, but I have never seen it onther than an illustration, ie this was NOT a photo.

All my referrences mention at least one being used in the defense of Moscow during the winter of 1941.

While not documented it would be reasonable to think any T-35 still in service got a splash of whitewash like most tanks did in there period.

If you want to paint it something other than green, go for it.

Thanks for the help. Saransk I am very new to this when you say a whitewash do you mean the Tank was painted its original color and then painted whit over that as a sort of winter camo or was the tank painted white right from the start?

white wash as in a green base with a brushed on white single coat so as the green shows thru over much of the model

the russians and germans did this many times with a bucket of paint and a floor mop . basically a sloppy hand job is perfect

To add, I have never done one, but it is a temporary, water based coat to tone down a darker base color, applied hastily (because it was likely FREEZING, a war was going on, etc.) by the crew with paint brushes, a mop, tree branches, towels, etc.

At best, it would be washed off by the crew when it thawed, but as the snow melted and the troops moved over the vehicle, it would show a lot of wear and the base color would show through.

A search here and on other sites will show the trend of showing such a coat to be so worn as to be transparent or missing in many if not most areas.

I ran a quick search on “Bing” and found about 20 photos of the T-35 taken mostly between the war with Finland and the German invasion. All the photos except one show the vehicle in a single color, one looks like it is most likely white-washed. The single color should be dark green, but the photos are black and white so it’s hard to be exact. I checked a bunch of photos of T-28’s and they also appeared to be done in a single color as well. That being said, I’d go with overall green or green with a coat of white-wash.[2cnts]
