I am about to embark on a trip in to maddness.
I don’t know why I punish my self this way but I still do it.
It goes like this.
One tamiya T-34/85
Several tamiya T-34/76’s(for extra parts if needed).
One zvezda T-34/85 (for parts)
Now heres the good stuff.
One chesapeak T-34/85 resin turret.
One eduard photo etch set (T34/85).
One jordie rubio barrel.
One set modelkasten tracks.
One set white metal roadwheels(maker unknown).
One v-2 engine kit from maquette.
This leave me with only a couple of things left until I get started.
The new osrey book one the T-34’s and an interior set.
I will Email you all from the sanitarium after my wife commits me.
i’m just finishing that tamaya t34/85 and that kit has some fit problems. i’m not sure if personaly i would invest so much money in aftermarket parts on a kit that is bad from the start , now since you’re takeing parts from other kits you might be able to make it fit a bit better i don’t know. i don’t realy say this to discourage you from it , its more of a heads up kinda thing.
will all that aftermarket stuff fit in the Dragon kit ???[4:-)]
ive got the osprey T34/76 and T34/85 books there good you might want to hunt down the Concord T34 book
where are you going to base your T34 and are you going to add the bed springs
your going to be busy, all the best and if they put you in the Nut house

I built that T34 oob and it didnt give me much trouble, I only tell you watch out when you put the chassie together thats the only part that gave me trouble.
Sounds like you’re off and running with this project James. Please keep us posted throughout the construction.
Just a question though … I thought I had read somewhere that the Zvezda T-34 was actually better than the old Tamiya offering. Maybe someone who has built both can throw some input in on this.
P.S. When you get to the sanitarium … make sure you check in with the rest of us … we’ll be in the room with the camo nets for padding. [;)][;)]
ive seen in the new AFV Modeler a diorama of a T34 and it looks great, the moddeler used the old Tamiya kit so with some work you might be ok

I’ve heard many good things about the Dragon kit (I want to get the newest T-34) ,so hopefully your making the right decision buying all those goodies. I’m also looking forward to seeing you progress. Good luck.

That’s a super project, indeed. The cost of all those things alone could probably buy me ten kits around here. Should come out great. Good luck and keep us posted.
Yes their is alot of after market stuff but I have been collecting it for about 3 or 4 years so the in preperation of my plung in to the abyss.
as far as the zvezda kit, it has good surface detail but it is “well” russian.
Simple packaging and and instructions.
The kit is also simply manufactured as well.
Yes I will be adding the bed springs.
I found some grandt line ho.scale window frames that will work well for this.

[2c] Hi James… I’m not sure I would start with the Tamiya T34/85 for your project, if only because the model itself is so dated. Starting with that lower hull, which was originally intended for motorization, with all those huge holes. I have never seen the Zvezda model, so I can’t say one way or the other. My personal choice for starting out would be one of the Dragon kits. I have both of their current T34/85 kits and I can tell you they are awesome. The lower hull and suspension parts are much more accurate, starting with the separate suspension arms. Also the engine access hatch is molded as a separate piece, saving you from performing the necessary surgery on the Tamiya kit; there is also a separately molded transmission access hatch. With the newer kit, which depicts the 1944 model T34-85, you have the choice of using the earlier-style front fenders as well. With all due respect, if you’re going to spend the time and money for all the after-market parts it makes more sense to me to start out with a kit that is more accurate to begin with. In any case, good luck with the project, and let us see it when it’s done [8D]
Yes… Dragon kits 6066 and 6203. There is also a Vietnam-era T34/85 floating around, which is currently out of production, but will probably be re-released shortly. It was a DML release from around 1998, and had roadwheels identical to the T55.
