Sweets & Treats Shop-Completed 04 February

Thanks for the comments, everybody. I’ve been under the weather for the last few days. Looks like I had Covid and then after that I came down with pneumonia. Went to the doctor and got a shot of steroids and some antibiotics and it looks like I’m on the trailing edges of the whole ordeal now. …thankfully.

So with all that being said, I’ve been stuck at home for the last two days and am sick and tired of messing with this thing…SO…I started working on it. I’ve been messing with this kit for the last two days straight and am happy to say that I’m about 95% done with it. All that is left is to replace the wood planking around the counter and add a personal photo to the shelf behind it for a special touch to this build. There’s a whole separate bag to run wires for the light post on the corner, for the sign above the front door and for interior lighting but the kit has you run wires out in the open and it all looked really tacky so I skipped the “light show”.

All in all it wasn’t a bad build aside from some parts in the kit that I just flat out didn’t use.

1.) The Christmas tree in the box was crap so I tossed it in favor for one that I’ve had for one of my other shop dios during the holidays and it worked perfectly.

2.) There were like a bazillion packages that were supposed to be scattered on the ground in front of the shop and laying around all over the place and would’ve looked worse than my cluttered house garage did so I skipped out on about 50% of the packages.

  1. Cupcake construction was crap so those didn’t get built. I used the chocolates in bags and pastries to display in the glass covered enclosure on the counter.

  2. Vines and a Big Ol Bow on the sign on top of the building??..NO WAY!

  3. There is a front door with a handle and a side archway with no door??!

Maybe I’m looking for as much (or at least getting it close) accuracy as I see in the kits that I build so I guess I’m not being all that fair. lol
I had me some fun with this kit aside from a few small problems along the way and am glad to get it finished up so I can get back on my Ta-152 build.

I’m callin this one finished guys.

OH and before I forget–Thank all of you who commented on and looked in my little side project here. You guys are awesome.

That looks far better than I ever expected for what is effectively a paper kit diorama. Your replacement tree really sells the scene. Most excellent!
Your work convinced me it’s worth giving them a try. I snagged one from this mfg on my last trip to HL and it’s snuggled comfortably into my stash.

Nice job Joe! Looks good and yummy!

Glad your feeling better, being sick is stupid.

Glad your feeling better that really came out great, what a nice little diversion.

I was thinking something along the same line. The proprietor’s 6 year old kid was tasked with it. Haha!

@mustang1989 Looks great! Good call on downsizing. How is a customer supposed to get to the front counter with a bunch of stuff in the way!

Cheers,
Mark

You know, this is the kind of kit I would/will probably never build. But it sure was fun watching it come together here! Thanks for undertaking it and sharing it.
