I’ve got an unbuilt Tamiya Bf109 in 1/48 that a friend would like. He is offering one of the following in exchange. All are 1/48 scale. Which would you choose and why? I’m leaning towards the P-38 because of the subject matter, but I’ve not read any reviews on that kit. Anyone built it?
Monogram P38J
Academy F4U-1D Corsair
Revell Bf 109 4-7 Tropical
Revell P47 N Thunderbolt
AMT F-4J Phantom
Monogram Hurricane II B-C-D
Whats your skill level? I’m currently building the P-38J and it can be a bear to build. You have to really watch the fit on the wing/fuselage joints. And the way the booms attach leave a lot to be desired. Having built the AMT F-4J, I would have to say there are more accurate kits out there but it doesn’t build up to badly. Don’t know about the others.
All of the kits you listed are good exept for the AMT Phantom. I would suggest TWO of any of those kits for the Tamiya kit since they are all about half the price of the Tamiya 109 kit
Yes, I pretty much agree the others, though I would be more blunt about it: regardless of which one you select, you are going to be on the short end of this transaction.
TOM
i think two of the abovementioned would be a fair trade for the tamiya. if i were to choose two . if it were me i would choose the jug and the lightning cos of the subject matter
Thanks folks. I am parting with the Tamiya as I have two Hasegawa 109’s unbuilt already. I could go for cash but I spend money too easily. The guy I’m trading with is a mate so this isn’t a one off. What I lose on the swings I gain on the roundabouts etc. Although I’ve thought of showing him this thread and seeing if I could get two…hmmmm which two though?
BTW Skill level dependson my mood. When I’m in the mood it can be quite respectable.
show him the thread then say " I want the Hog and the Jug" those would be 2 great models to have. I say that acadamy Hog is pretty dang good, having helped a neighboors 9 year year old sone with one recently.
