Swanny`s

Matt you don’t know how many times I have gone to your websight for a bit of info like a kit review or a technique I have forgotten. I even have one of you review kits in my stash. I beleive I probally speak for alot of us here too. If you can get the guys email post it and we can all spam him until his email locks up!

I kind of know the feeling. I have moved a substantial dollar amount of product on ebay with a perfect feedback score. Several automobiles a couple of classics so my eBay account receives alot of unwanted attention. Once a week I receive a fake email from one of these jerks telling me I need to resend my information to clear up a problem. I foward them to eBay and they then disappear from my mailbox but these jerks never quit. I say we deploy all of the aforementioned punishments and then whatever else we can think of!

Well guys, I want to thank everyone for your support. We brought the site back on-line for a few hours to back up the product reviews and images then will be wiping the entire site later tonight. The hacker did a real job on the files and left backdoors - some found, some suspected. To provide full security it just needs to be restarted from scratch. I have over 9800 files in there covering more models than I can count. Fortunately most of the modeling stuff was saved. Hope to have everything fixed and back in place by Thursday if not sooner. It really has helped my spirits reading all the comments here and on other forums - thanks again.

Whoa Matt… Stalkers? That’s pretty heavy. Hope you can get all your website stuff back up and running. Unfortunately it sounds like the hacker did a real job. Good luck, and a very sincere thank you for your wonderful site.

Swanny’s is down. Good luck Matt!!

Only pliers? Hmmmmmm…in truth, pliers aren’t, shall we say, “invasive” enough for the likes of them…my most fervent desire is to see some slime seriously messes with something of their’s one day.

Hope you manage to get up and running without much pain…bigger and better than ever.

Hey, Matt!

I was on last night when it went down for good. Kinda like watching the Titanic sink. My bet is, it’ll come back Bigger, Badder, and stronger than before.

I know what you mean. Rebuilding now - lots of files to deal with.

So the site that the redirect was pointing to, did they have anything to do with it, if they left that obvious of a clue seems like we could nail them.

Actually 123ehost is my hosting company. Those are the tech support guys. The attack started at 3pm on Monday and was caught almost immediately. By 3:45 pm Monday the server had been isolated and the site shut down to prevent further damage. Everything since then has been looking to see what and how they did it.

Makes me wonder why anyone would do such a thing unless they have some personal beef with Matt.

The only people who don’t like me are spammers cause I work so hard to shut them down. I set that site up from my own funds, never asked anybody to help cover the cost of doing it with a single mission of helping other modelers get better at what they do. I guess that could piss someone off. [B)]

I don’t visit as often as some Matt, but yours is one of the few sites I visit for tips and advice or to browse builds.

My [2c] on punishment for the culprit(s):

Strap them into a bathtub filled with warm water…then slowly add hot water every few minutes incrementally increasing the temperature a few degrees at a time until the temperature reaches 212 degrees Farenheit! Guaranteed they would never hack again!

Second choice would be encasing the nut in a full-length robe made of fishhooks braided like chainmail and rolling them down a steep hill a few times!

Hat Tip to the guys at 123ehost for a job well done at shutting them down.

Why do hackers do it? having run into a couple of these types before I can repeat the answer one gave me. “Because I can”

This particular POS was running a script that would blue screen other win95 system on the ISP we were on. He was basically scanning an IP Port that would crash windows, a known problem at the time. He felt that since the people he bluescreened had not patched their system that he had the right to exploit that vulnerability. Needless to say this was the last dealings I had with this person and I’ve kept a watchful eye on him ever since.

Short answer, why do hackers do this stuff, why do people spray paint their names on bridges. Just because they can.

Really good point Moon Puppy.

A few years ago I was serving as a visiting professor when a student alerted about being hacked. For a few weeks afterward a student would avoid my gaze and ask me for advice about his laptop…which HE knew more about than I.

Yeah, he was jealous of the victim student and wanted to be “recognized”.

I only hope none of us get targeted due to this thread! Hey! The idiot might be an FSM’er under another name!

Sorry to hear about your site, I hate hackers, spammers and email conmen.

Remember that Steven King movie with James Caan as a writer who gets kidnapped by a “fan”?

That ankle scene would be a good start but d it to their hands so the buggers can’t type. [}:)]

Main site is back on-line. Working on the forums next.

Git’er Done! [tup]

Moon Puppy, PM inbound…Harv

Hackers should be chained by their leg 5 feet from a fire ant mound. Pound the stake into the mound and run!

Git’er done! yeah it’s me, right back atcha.
