Howdy!! I was enjoying the nice spring day here in MEEECHIGAN, and while tooling around on my bi-cycle I heard the familiar roar of a Merlin. Sure enough I looked up and saw a BEAUTIFUL P.51D in full invasioned striped glory zooming over with a B.17 flying behind!! I’ll tell ya it was awesome!! They were only about 1000 feet up or so, maybe less. On a beautiful sunny day it thrilled me to no end. Of course I had to hop off the bike and jump up and down like a kid, waving my arms, couldn’t help it.
Kinda cool 'cause where I’m at there’s really no museums or historical spots for warbirds.I wasn’t planning on building the Tamiya P.51D I have stashed for awhile, but now it’s coming out!!! A nice little show!![party]
well every now and then I see BlackHawks A-10’s F/A-18’s and Snowbirds. One time I saw a flight of 20 A-6’s doing a low level flight (about 150-200 feet above the deck) over Sault Ste Marie Michigan in 95. come to think of it when was the Intruder retired? Oh and one time I thought I saw a B-57 Canaberra. Oh and speaking of BlackHawks I saw a flight of UH-60’s fly so low over my house I could see the details of the undersides of each helicopter.
One beautiful spring day, while walking my daughter to the park a number of years ago.,
I heard what sounded like a troop of freight trains coming down my block - I look up to see
a flight of 3 f-16’s toolin down the strip at about 1000 ft. I was impressed. I became really impressed when the 4th came down the strip on full A/B trying to catch up tp the first 3.
I live in downtown, BKlyn and we don’t get any of that (this was before 9/11) - 'cept the president’s chinooks which fly right over my house.
Hey Rick, sometime we’ll have to hook up down there. I’m up by Lansing (yes your teams stomping grounds). I’ve only seen a P.51D around here one other time about ten years ago. That guy was having a riot, turned and buzzed me twice. That’s why I was jumping around today like a nut!!!
One of our hi tech company founders here in Ottawa has a Spitfire Mk XVI, a P-51D and a P-40E. Every so often we’re fortunate enough to hear / see one of these birds flying around. It’s nice to know that he doesn’t believe in them being hangar queens.
The Canadian Warplane Heritage sends their Lancaster, B-25 and Canso up here every once in a while. Also saw them fly their Corsair before they sold it and their Hurricane before it was destroyed by fire. The missus bought me a ride in the Lancaster for our anniversary a few years ago. Unbelievable!
Saw the CAF’s B-17G ‘Sentimental Journey’ and their “He-111” when they stopped over here a few years ago. Managed to snap some really good photos.
We are doing a fly-by for a funeral for a soldier killed in Iraq Tuesday 5/31/05 Near Masillion, Ohio. Look up about 1300 hrs local. there should be a A/T-6, L-17 Navion, and O2-A.
God Speed to the young man we are saluting
A flyby at a funeral is so heartwrenching. Even though the missing man formation is a thing of beauty to behold when properly executed, any one with any kind of heart feels a great pain inside. The most touching flyby was some years ago when a missing man formation was performed with four T-6s and the one in the rear pulled up and away trailing smoke. That is what I would call a real send off. My condolences to his family for their loss (The family of the soldier killed in Iraq), and to all of the families who will remember loved ones who are no longer with us on this weekend.
Yesterday, as I was leaving my man Wibhi’s house to walk home, I heard a familiar sound that made my heart stop for a second. You see, it was near downtown Brooklyn and the last time I’d heard it that close up was on 9/11. Sure enough, I looked up just in time to see the wings and tail of an F-16 disappear over a house. I picked up the pace to get home and turn on the TV, expecting to see…lord knows what.
Well, I’d forgotten it was Memorial Day Weekend, called “Fleet Week” in New York, and I’d seen the butt end of a diamond formation of Thunderbirds (it was too quick to even see the color of the a/c), or so I’m told it was them. Anyway, a diamond of Vipers with a photo ship alongside was flying around Manhattan and Brooklyn. But I just saw enough to jump to a morbid conclusion.
Just goes to show, we’re still jittery after almost four years.

Please any of you who live in the Akron/Canton/ Massilon Ohio area come out and line the streets to send our proud warrior off. The newspaper should have the exact route. I’ll try to post it here too as soon as I get it. It would be nice for the family to drive by a wall of American flags on the way to say Goodbye to their son!
i was helping a friend with his house last summer and a B-17G flew over at about 500-600 ft. what was totaly cool was it did it 2 days in a row!!! being an armor modeler i didnt know to much about which unit colors it was painted in. but booy was it cool!
