Does anyone have any information on the one Munitionsschlepper that was built to supply the Sturmtigers? Was it like the Wespe and Hummel in that it was a standard model except for no cannon? What was the normal carrier for the 38cm rockets?
I have a Tamiya Strumtiger with shell set and PE zim. I was thinking of a loading scene and wondered what carried the rockets.
I also have a Sturmtiger and am curious to see if it was supplied with anything like the Panzer IV based munitionschlepper that serviced the Morser 54cm ‘big gun’???
Theoretically, there was a Munitionspanzer Panther, a Bergepanther with the winch and recovery gear removed, which was adapted to carry ammunition for the Sturmtiger…Or at least someone built a model of such a vehicle. I have never seen a photo of one actually loaded with 38cm rockets. There was a great shortage of ammunition for this weapon. Only 317 rounds of 38cm ammo were made, roughly 1-1/2 ammunition complements for each Sturmtiger built. There is no mention of such a Munitionspanzer in the detailed TO&A I have for Panzersturmmoerserkompanies. Not much need for one either, if you don’t have any ammo in the first place.
There is a photo of the model of this hypothetical vehicle on page 56 of Auriga Publishing’s; Advanced Techniques, Painting and Weathering Military Vehicles.
Thanks for the info. Which volume of Advanced Techniques, Painting and Weathering Military Vehicles is it in? I had read where there was one built, but they said it was based on a Tiger which made me wonder why they used such a heavy chassis.
Again thanks for the link. It is a interesting model and very well done. I wonder since it was a purpose built conversion if it would have had racks and some type of light armor. Something along the lines of the Pz.kpfw IV Ausf D/E Fahrgestell Munitionschlepper that MrSquid2u mentioned.
