Supermarine/Vickers GB

The Eduard Spitfire Mk-II kit has arrived and can hardly wait to get started. The last time I built a Supermarine Spitfire I was a Cub Scout, it was 1955.

Harold & Frank: Looking good guys!!!

Got my paint, hopefully will get some done this weekend.

Harold, I’ve been thinking about a Spitfire Mk I or Mk II for over a year now to pose with a BoB Bf 109E. Gotta get with the program and get one done. This group build might be the right time. The last Spitfire I built was when the Monogram Mk IX was a new kit. Too long ago to remember. Anyway, progress on the Mk VIII today. Attached the wing. Need to clean up the leading edge and attach the wing tips. This little Spitfire is building faster that I expected.

Thats going well Frank.

Frank, I have two models for the British Army Group Build on my work bench to finish before I can start my Spitfire, but I am watching how you build the Mk-VIII.

Bish, I know how you feel about Spitfire’s but the Spitfire badge you found for the Supermarine Group Build is absolutely first class.

Harold

Thanks Harold, i still wanted to make the effort and be impartial.I rather liked that image.

Bish since you are online, how is the lockdown in Britain effecting you?

Personally, not that much. I work at a prison, so i have not been furloughed. We don’t go out that much, used to go for a meal or a movie maybe once a month, so not able to do that. Only used to pop into town every so often, usually to go to the LHS. Main thing is i can’t do is go and see my mum. She lives about an hour away and is over 80. And with us working at a prison, i have not been to see her much even when we were not locked down. Not worth the risk. But she has had her 2 jab’s now, so thats a relief.

Main impact has been at work. I work in the stores, we have not had as many deliveries as we used to. We also deal with the laundry so have had to take extra precautions when there have been cases.

We have been lucky really.

I can certainly relate to not seeing your Mum. Our kids will not even give us a hug or come in the house to visit for fear they will make us sick.

Harold

very good start fotofrank.

I started the VC-10 tail, wings, fuselage and one engine pod.

Removing seams and test fit.

Looking good alreay Nick.

Thanks Bish. I’m now undecided, a tanker or airliner ? I have British airways and East African airlines decals on order, let’s see what I get.

Paints and masks are here:

I’ve got most of the cockpit done. Not Lawdog quality but good enough considering the tiny cockpit hole:

Hi Cliff, it looks like you are doing a Spitfire too? Do I need spacial paint and masks for my Eduard Spitfire Mk-II? If so is it the same set you have in the picture above?

Harold

Harold,

Looks like you already have the masks from looking at the pic in your post. They’re in the zip-loc bag. The Eduard Profipack kits usually come with masks and PE.

Jay

Harold: I buy the pre-cut canopy masks because I friggin’ hate cutting them myself. As Jay said the kit probably already has them.

The paint’s up to you. I haven’t painted a RAF bird in years so I figured buying some new paint was probably a good idea. They were in the sets so I just went ahead and bought them that way instead of single bottles.

Nice job on the spitfire

Yes Cliff, nice work on the Spitfire cockpit. I will be watching to see how your Spitfire is built.

Harold

Is this an accurate group of colors for the Spitfire Mk-II?

harold, i know the green and brown are correct. Its the underside colour i am not to sure of. I am pretty certain that Sky Type S and Duck Egg blue are the same colour.
