has any one had any problems with this stuff. i used it this evening on my M-109 and certain arears turned white. has any one elese ran into this type of problem when they use thier dullcoat .
Are you talking about testor dullcote? If so I have from time to time… Also what kind of paint are you putting it over… Testors dullcote reacts VERY BADLY with Tamiya acrylics…
this was with all model master enamel paints. its from the line of super scale produts.
I’ve had the same problems and as a result I have gotten away from using Dullcote in the can.
I’ll either mix a topcoat for my airbursh, or do without.
I mainly try to get a satin finish on top and a flat finish on the bottom of the tank (where the mud is).
I suffered the very same thing. Then I started thinning the Testor’s Dull-cote with lacquer thinner. Problem gone.
But of course that may bring another problem!!! The paint/surface that you are going to spray the Dull-cote on must be compatible with lacquer thinner. It’s always something!

I use Tamiya Acrylics exclusively, on my Armor, with Testor’s Dull Coat, I’ve never had a problem. I DO know that, the Dull must be used at room temp or warmer (place the can in a pan with warm water before using) Also, if it feels like the can is getting light and there is very little left, don’t finish it off. Use a new can.
I’m with latch66. I use Microscale’s Micro Satin on the topside of my vehicles and Micro Flat on the tracks and wheels. I had this same problem with things turning white with Tester’s Dullcoat, so I quit using it. Usually I noticed it if I tried to put on too thick of a coat at once or several coats too quickly. I think a satin finish on top is the way to go, Tony Greenland, author of Panzer Modeling Masterclass, also uses a satin finish, but uses different products. Satin finishes help make your paint scheme appear more vivid and accentuates the detail. If you want to make certain areas have a flat finish, use pastle chalks on top of this. I don’t use decals anymore, just dry-transfers, so I don’t go for the whole; primer / paint / Future/ dullcoat thing either, which in my opinion, adds too much thickness to your finishing scheme and ends up obscuring your carefully built details.
Has the same problem a couple of years ago, raised the problem with another member of the club I belonged to at the time. Traced the problem down to basically what Erock68 stated. It was a very cold and damp Canberra day when I had the problem.

I was using the testors dull coat on my panther painted in tamiya acrylics and had certain areas turn white on me too. I was spraying the kind from the bottle with my airbrush. After i let it dry for about 10 seconds, i sprayed some more dull coat on the white area and it went away. Odd fix and i dont know why it worked, but it might help you. One problem i havent found a fix for yet is dull coat causing my paint to look darker.
