Super filter method?

I have discovered that my apartment building’s airconditioners and heating is right outside my windows. I can’t build a paint boot there or the air will be pulled right into the system. The window also has a screen.

There is no easy way to build a paint booth.

Is there some way to build a box that would filter out all the fumescoming from the booth/fan and leave normal air coming back into the apartment.

The alternative is to drive out to my Folks house in the country to do any airbrush painting. [:(]

First, how far away from your window are the intake vents for the HVAC system? Depending on distance and relative locations of the HVAC system fresh air intake, the amount of vapors you would be discharging through your duct work would probably be sufficiently diluted before reaching the intake. In addition, the actual air velocity exiting the ductwork may not be sufficient to cause vapor entrainment into the HVAC system.

Second, if a spray booth is totally out of the question, consider simply opening your door and window where you are going to be spraying, and putting a small fan behind you as you spray to help dilute any vapor concentrations, and in addition, give consideration to wearing a respirator while you spray.

Or move to acrylics.

Even though acrylics don’t totally alleviate the problem…

You could buy a booth that is designed for indoor use but they are pricey.
Artograph makes this one which is geared for models:
