sunderland to sandringham

Hi all

Im am interested in converting an Airfix 1/72 short sunderland to a short sandringham, they are more or less the same basic shape ,so it should not be a hard task.

If anyone has done this or know of a magazine article or any tips, please post.

thanks, Neil

I don’t know of any articles or tips for the conversion, but this site:

http://www.seawings.co.uk/

has some nice reference photos of a Sandringham - look under the “Walk-Rounds” link for it.

Hope this helps,

Bruce

thanks Bruce

F-rsin make a 1/144 scale example.

I’ve also a decal sheet from Hawkeye models of Australia for an Ansett Sandringham in 1/72, I bought it on e.bay after repeated attempts to contact the manufacturer failed.

I’d like to tackle that project mysel but the windows I need to add scare me off the project.

You can ditch alot of the kit parts though…turrets, bombs, crew.

Sandringhams also had P&W engines , the same as Sunderland Mk5’s. Same as Catalinas with a similar fishtail exhaust. The DNL Sandringhams also had radomes under the wings. Engines & Things produce these.

I’d be interested in seeing how your project takes shape.

Regards

Clive
