First thanks for all the help from everyone answering my stupid questions so far. For those of you who don’t know me yet, I am back to modeling after a 20 year break. (You know… girls, Army, college, marriage. All that stuff that gets in the way of what we really want to do.[:D] )
Back in my teens, I loved building Tigers. Can’t explain it, just loved 'em. I had every Tiger kit my LHS would stock.
So here I am now, pretty rusty in my skills but itching to build another Tiger. Would you please offer recomendations on a good Tiger kit to start.
I am not sure I am up to PE or zimmerit yet. (not sure what zimmerit is anyway) DOH
The new 3 in 1 Dragon Tiger Initial is the best bang for your buck, but it is scarce in the US right now. Greatmodels says mid-march is an expected arrival date, moved from Feb 21st. If you cannot wait, the Tamiya Tigers (a bunch of different options, early, late, mid) are a little more expensive but have a great fit. Academy makes a Tiger with a full interior, which is also decent. I recommend the Dragon if you can wait, the Tamiya kit if you want to get started
If you just wanted to get back into building Models and love Tigers.I would grab up the Italeri Tiger you can get it anywhere and cheap like $19 or $20 bucks.Cheap model to pratice on. While we all wait for the dragon model[:o)] Lot of pepole dont like the Italeri Tiger. But I think its as good, well almost as good as the others. Keyword here is cheap and you want a model to build your skills back on. Also there some after market stuff for it also, and if you screw up, look at it this way you didnt spend$40 are $50 bucks on it.There’s also the Academy Tiger without the interior something like $25 are so bucks.
yes, the italeri tiger looks like a pretty nice kit, got it waiting in my stash. I’d just liek to point out that the new dragon tiger has PE and some other stuff you might not find good for your skill level. The tamiya Tigers are very nice line. Get an Early version, wont have zimmerate or anything tricky.
Any of the newer Dragon 3-in-1’s would seem to be the wise consensus choice. Certainly hard to be the value you get. I recommend the Tamiya kits also, I love the Late version, no rubber tires to paint! They seem to be getting a little cheaper now that Dragon has released their newer versions. They come with indy tracks too. Fit is excellent.
