Suggestions for books on Panzer's

After a few ideas on good books on either Tiger’s, Panther’s or Panzer’s in general. If they can be used as both a learning aid (couse I know stuff all about them really) and moddeling reference all the better.

Tigers in Combat II.

It lists all the units with Tiger I’s and II’s and has tons of photos.

I disagree with Kentucky Colonel. The poster is looking for some basic instruction. Buying a $100 book on Tigers shouldn’t be his first choice.

Try the basic books by Squadron Signal. Tiger I In Action, Panther In Action, PzKfwgn IV in Action. Not expensive and easily available. Start with those.

Also look at books by Concord and Osprey.

Vol #1 cost over $200.

Squadron Signal books go for $12.00 to $30.00 as does some Osprey books so I’m in the price range.

Those mentioned are very good suggestions. A series of books i am finding very useful are the Panzer tracts books.

The three Panzer Colors books are invaluable to any German armor builder. They can be had for under $20 new and maybe less used.

Whoa! I have to caution anyone against buying the 2nd “cheap” copy of either the “Tigers in Combat” volumes, 1 or 2. The new printings are on really lousy cheap paper and are almost worthless for detail. They look like they were shot through a sandstorm. I honestly can’t imagine hat the publisher was thinking by choosing such a crappy, worthless printing run of these books, except to line his pockets.

If you’re going to get either of these volumes, cough up the money for the original high-quality first runs. I won both, and they are absolutely worth the money for the serious German armor enthusiast.

Once you enter the world of reference books, there’s no looking back! [:D] If you would like a handy set of references that covers all the major vehicle types, I would recommend the Achtung Panzer series. While much of the actual text is in Japanese, the really important stuff also has English subtitles. They include quite a bit of line drawing information as well as photos of surviving museum examples and can be had for a relatively cheap price depending.

Hello friend,

I would suggest Lee Aurbach’s “Panzer Wreck’s” for an interesting perspective on a diverse range of vehicles. This series of books has made a vast number of previously unpublished photos to the modeler.

Ditto, these were my three “Bibles” for many years and I still use them…

…If you can find “MMiR’s, The Modeler’s Guide to the Tiger” consider yourself lucky and pay whatever you have to to have this crown jewel of references…

Your right about that one,I nailed the tiger MMIR one for $36.00 total on E-bay,and their Jagdpanzer one for just $25 at a show.

Cool beans…I wasn’t nearly as impressed with the one on Jagdpanzers as their one on Tigers, but it is still useful. The model build ups aren’t as good a quality. I also have their Kubelwagon special…

I’ve got the Sherman one. It’s a good reference but the kits are all dated. I hope the reissue that with current kits.

That one is pretty good also,actually got that one for free in a buy one get one free deal from a book club.

All the above are good suggestions.

Start with Squadron / Signal walk around series as they are the most affordable and are a excellent start into the reference book aspect of the hobby. Check Squadron’s site for specials and build on the sale items, sooner or later the ones you need will be discounted. Once you order from them they will send a monthly flier that highlights the monthly deals.

Avoid hard cover books as they are twice the price!

But there walk around serious does seem rather limited when it come to panzers. On their site they only list three, or are there others that are out of print.
