Sugestion for a group build - the goal would be to create a good ref source regarding...

ACES!

How many times do we get in to trouble because we want to duplicate markings of an ace.

Take this sample:

This is Aeromaster sheet for Richard Turner P-51D Short Fuse Sallee ( second sheeme):

And here are some pictures of the same AJ*T / 413561 ( Turner had several Mustangs )

I only found this on the web. I have a total of 12 pictures of this exact aircraft and during it’s short life service diferences, regarding markings are enourmous and worst : none like the Aeromaster sheet ( even the P-51 subtype is different).

This is just a sample that many may already found. Questions regarding the Aircraft of the aces. From WWI to present day, “ACES” do have a strong model appeal. Who can be indiferent to an Iranian F-14 decorated with five Iraqui shots, I think noone.

So I would like to post to your consideration the possibility of a Model Group regarding “ACES” with two goals:

  1. Share & Dysplay pics regarding colors markings ( a little like the fabulous Wolf’s files)

  2. Built the Aircraft of the Aces!

Tell me your thoughts ( just forgive me if this was already debated by you in the past)

Hmmm… I like the sound of this… may just have to get back to working on the website and this may be a good excuse…

Fade to Black…

this sounds like a great idea. are you going to limit them to after they were aces or any a/c they flew? example pappy boyington’s avg a/c.

Joe, take for example the career of Gunther Rahl with 275 victories. Not only did he flew during the WWII years in the Luftwaffe, he also flew after the war amonst others the F-86 Sabre and helped the development of the Starfighter. Latter in his life, he became NATO General

Now imagine modelling Chuck Yeager Airplanes! Whewwwwwww!

IMHO Aces are an endless source for model inspiration

One more about the aces:
