styrene cement remover?

This may have been answered before and I probably know the answer(no), but I thought I’d ask. I came into possession of a 1:32 Apache from a garage sale and it has been partial assembied with lots of plastic cement. Is there any way to release the death grip of this glue without causing a whole of damage. Thanks.[:)]
Eddie

I think your right, the awnser is no.

Plastic cement melts the plastic, so smears of glue etc. are actualy damaged plastic surfaces. you will need to fill and sand them.

Sorry for the bad news… [:(]

The reason I asked is all the moving parts are glued. What a drag![:(][|(][sigh][yuck]

Yeah… sorry Eddie. Several hobby knives, sheets of sandpaper, and filler putty, are about your only option. Smaller glued pieces are normally unrecoverable.

Take care,
Frank

Thank you.I guess I’ll have to manufacture a couple of rotating shafts for the main rotors and the tail rotor and work from there.

i would say acetone but that woudprobably damage the plastic around the glue

Unless you are really “up” on fixing this particular model, you would be better off to buy a new kit and start from square one. Taking a disaster like that and making into a decent model gives a great sense of satisfaction, but can also cause severe insanity.

I agree Yardbird, but this was purchased for a dollar. I think I can learn to live with the ugliness on this one[;)]

I once heard that if you place the model in the freezer for a couple of hours,it would make the glue bond brittle and alow you to separate the parts.Just be very careful and work slowly with minimal force. No guarantee that this will work, but it may be something to consider.

I’ll give that one a try. I’ve already resigned myself to having to rebuild parts, so any help is gravy.[^]
