"Sturer Emil" interior colours

Just recently purchased Trumpeter’s 1:72 “Sturer Emil” and am trying to resolve interior colours of this big gunned beast. Trumpeter call out the floor plate as buff and the interior walls of the gun bay are Panzer Grey.

I would thus like to find out what the interior portion of the gun is, plus the gun mounting plate etc and if buff is indeed the colour of the floor plate. I know that buff is appropriate for interiors of tanks but an open topped SPG/Panzerjager?

Being an open topped vehicle I would assume that it would be Panzer Grey like the outside of the vehicle, would that be correct? Hope someone can help!

Cheers and thanks

Mike

Although the site is in Russian, there are a whole lot photos here;

Granted they are in B/W. [sigh]

Virtually everything is in Panzer Grey, with the exception of the personal gear, gas mask canisters, grenades, etc. Parts such as traverse and elevation wheels, gun sights, levers, knobs and other “functional parts” would commonly be painted black. The floor boards were wood, so they might be showing some wear and tear, exposing the bare wood through the Panzer Grey. A lot of modelers seem to depict it this way. Google up some images and see how other folks have tackled this problem. AFV modeler #25 and Allied-Axis #4 also cover this vehicle.

Thanks for the input. Wooden floor boards?

I never suspected that to be the case!

cheers and thanks again

That is such a cool link Kykeon, thank you!
Interior colour of the walls is pretty likely to be German Grey.
There is a lot of canvas personal gear looking at P8 that will really higlight your model and also in P9 there is a lot of bare steel.
To me it looks as if the main gun recoil is bare steel? That would really stand out in the fighting copartment!
And in P10 the breach has to be steel, don’t you think?
I’d love to see the exterior represented in the “Tropen” Sceme, I think you actally had a reference picture Kykeon?

Thank You

Svenne

You are right Svenne Duva, I forgot to mention the parts you listed. The recoil cylinder rods, breach block and elevation gear teeth would be in bare steel.

I do have a photo of one of the beasts in what appears to be “Tropen” scheme. I don’t remember where I found this photo and who labeled it as being in “Tropen”, so if folks want to argue over it, go ahead. It does appear to be a two-toned camo of rather dark colors and is of the right time frame for this to occur. Be your own judge;

The overall Panzer grey with stell details will look excellent when offset with stowed equipment colours.

My thoughts on a base will see this tank killer behind a low rock outcrop with camo netting draped over the gun barrel awaiting its next victim.

I am getting some Preiser tank crew figures in late September to finalise the base.
