I know its stupid but i’ve never used Dull Coat before. Here we go, Can you apply dull-coat with a brush? There I’ve said it, laugh at me all you want, but can you help me out?
Yes. Buy any clear flat in the bottle.
In addition to Testor’s Dull Cote you can buy a krylon acrylic matte finish in a big spray bottle in a craft store. Used for scrapbooking and other crafts. Much cheaper, no airbrush needed.
[#ditto]'s to both!
Cool thanks guys.
NO, NO, NO! DO NOT use apply Testor’s DullCote with a brush. It’s laquer based and laquer is “hotter” than enamel or acrylic. The base will likely soften the paint and the brushing actio will tend to craze it. Except in VERY small spots as touch up, you should airbrush this (preferable) or use a rattle can.
I use the rattle can for my dull/gloss coats. It works quite well, covers great and simple as sin to use.
I always use the spray can too. The bottle is for application with an airbrush.
I do know that if you put it on too thick, all sorts of nastyness happens to the paint underneath. You really to have to lightly mist it on.
I used to have problems with Dullcote (rattlecan) drying improperly (it wouldn’t be completely flat, and it would be somewhat mottled), but I’ve found that if you let it dry in direct sunlight (I know, harder to find during the Winter months), then it would dry VERY flat. So now I let the Dullcoted part dry in direct sunlight only.
Okay, thanks guys now I can do some more work on my Do335
